~Awakeri School~

~Top School 2018~

The Awakeri team has worked hard for weeks in their lunchtimes, going through trials and then practice, practice, practice.
Back row: Olivia Nolan, Sophie Peat, Teigan Nolan, Kalib Schuler, Elijah Wetting, Ollie Fort (reserve), Jamie Julian
Front row: Isabel Lambert, Jake Laurent, Mikayla Jamieson, Phoebe Carter (reserve) and Dan Rowling.
Likewise, the cheerleaders have trained hard and come up with a great routine, correction, an awesome routine!
Good to see two year eight girls in there: Megan Dreyer and Asha Stevenson.
Despite heavy rain overnight, the games are away. Here are two schools on the Magic Carpet Ride. Meanwhile, there are gala games, garage sale, plant sales, food sales, raffles etc all happening. Odin and Jon try to score a lucky jar.
The chair-o-plane was a challenge for some. Rhiane, Milan and Rhianna have their turn. Josh find it funny when Frank and Rhys feel rather ill after their three turns on the chair-o-plane!
The pony rides are popular. If you wanted some more thrills, there were even helicopter rides! A very big thank you to John Wilson of Central Helicopters for donating his chopper and time.
There were lots of skills needed. Here is the shooter for Kawerau South in the Up Up and Away game. Awakeri's team work was excellent on the Magic Carpet Ride. No spills. Mikayla places the barrels, Jamie poles the carpet, Teigan looks after the water... and Issy plays on with the beesting that she got in the first game!
Dan and Sophie have the job of hauling Kalib up close and then holding him steady while he shoots in Up Up and Away. Kalib had to first catch the ball thrown by Jake...
and then shoot it into the bucket. He aimed for the 5 pointers. Jamie and Elijah lead the team through Stitch In Time. They set a great score of 15.4 in the wet conditions.
The day is done. Awakeri's cheerleaders are bubbling! (and tired!) Mr Fitz and Miss CT announce the best cheerleaders. It's....
Awakeri!!! Kawerau South won the overall Top School for the 5th year in a row!. Awakeri did win their section and came 2nd over all. A great day!
