~Awakeri School~

~Top School 2017~

Getting ready for Top School. Awakeri's cheerleaders perform at assembly before the big weekend. The Top School gala garage sale has started. A big crowd was waiting for the doors to open at 7 am.
Next the plants team swing into action. They have been working all year for this. Even beautiful painted rocks on sale.
There were plenty of activities if you weren't watching the games. The Wetting family organised the quick fire raffles and sold out quite early.
Donkey rides were popular. Shaun Snow gets dunked, no doubt by a friend! He could have just waited for the heavens to open, like they did before lunch!
Awakeri's first game was Stitch In Time. Cody Hall, Ethan Forbes and Elijah Wetting lead their team of eight. They got equal first with 15 rings in this game. The cheerleaders were just as impressive.
Meanwhile, Alex Robbie is painting kids' faces... The hangi is being worked on...
the food team have some delicious options...

and kids are at the ever popular horizontal bungee. Jon tries to reach a can of fizzy.

Lucy Knott was one of many expupils who came back to help out. Win a prize Lucy! The team are on to the Magic Carpet Ride. Jamie Julian poles the carpet, Teigan Nolan hangs on tight to her bucket of water, judge Sara Elliot gives instructions, Ollie Forsyth, Ayla Rowe & Leanna Roebuck move the drums.

The cheerleaders cheer the team on. The Awakeri team has a huddle to prepare for the next event...
Leanna throws for the ten pointer on the bungee. Mikayla Jamieson drops the ball in the one pointer. Judge Peter Sheather watches carefully.
At the end of the day, Awakeri came a close 3rd in their section, behind Whakatane Int year 8s and Edgecumbe. Kawerau South won over all after blitzing the year 5 & 6 section again.
