~Awakeri School~

~Top School 2013~

Mmmmmm garage sale
The early morning barbecue worked hard for hours. People were queueing at 6.30am for the garage sale, which opened at 7am. It was very busy!
The plant stall had a great variety of things for the garden. Meanwhile, the gala games got under way. Sarah and friends wait for the chairoplane to start.
Julians Ice Creams
Whack a Rat. You get the choose a prize if you can whack it coming down the chute. Our old caretaker Dennis Pugh is there watching. It is 15 years since he worked at our school, but he still supports us. Yay Dennis! Plenty of smile with the yummy ice creams at Julians stall.
Fitz
The main organiser, Mr Fitz, starts the round of games off. Watchorns Castle is always spectacular. This competitor shuts her eyes going through the sprays, trying to keep her leaky bucket up straight.
Awakeri's cheerleaders worked hard. Here they are supporting Jamie and the year 7 & 8 team on Stitch In Time. Awakeri's cheerleaders are all in time. They came third.
Katie
The year 5 & 6 team did very well, coming 1st equal in their section. Here they are going well in the Magic Carpet Ride. Rhylee is poling. Later she had a nasty crash on the Bungee and had to go home injured. Katie Growden concentrates on the difficult Horizontal Bungee. She got one of her shots in.
Olivia
The year 7 & 8 team did very well too, coming 3rd in their section. However, they had a pretty bad Magic Carpet Ride, crashing quite a few times. Here's Felicity trying to hold the backet of water up as they yet again collapse! Olivia lost her balance going down the Castle slide. Most of her water tipped out!
Tawari
Stitch In Time is an exhausting event. You can see it in the faces of the Year 7 & 8 team. Tawari was the shooter in Up Up and Away. He has twisted to catch a ball thrown by Sam, then he'll be hauled up to shoot.
Cambell and Jana working hard
Cambell and Jana did a good job hauling their shooter Kevin up for a shot. Now it's the prize giving. Mr Fitz and MP Ann Tolley get ready to present the Cheerleaders' Shield.
WIS cheerleaders
Some of the crowd, they are waiting for the big announcement. Whakatane Intermediate's cheerleaders came equal first. Here they are doing a spectacular demo on the stage.
