~Awakeri School~

~Top School 2011~

Magic carpet ride
It was a great day! While all the crowd were spending their money, the teams got into the events. First up for Awakeri was the Magic Carpet Ride. The team worked well. Nikoli is poling the carpet along, Jenna is guarding her bucket of water, Molly runs to the front with the next barrel. Meanwhile, the crowd are buying food, and playing games, like guessing which piglet will win the pig racing. Don't they look like a bunch of athletes!
Jenna and Luisa
Molly and Jordan are pulling Tiaan along the flying fox so he can shoot for goal. Jenna and Luisa are pulling Tiaan back so he can catch the next ball being thrown by Nikoli.
Tiaan
Here's Tiaan shooting from the flying fox. He only missed three times. This was our best event. Now it's the Watchorns Castle. Molly slides down, holding her leaking bucket up
The big group of Awakeri cheerleaders are singing and chanting and dancing their hearts out. There were a lot of young students in the cheerleading squad, with one brave boy amongst it too.
Jordan Mikayla
Jordan makes a splash landing off the castle slide. Here's Mikayla emptying what's left in her leaking bucket into the drum.
Abbey!!!! Daniel oh oh!
Now we're on to the horizontal bungee. Abbey shows how not to do it! Well, the slide was covered with detergent and water..... Daniel has shot the ball into the drum, now he turns with the bungee round his waist at full stretch. Will he make it back??
Tiaan & Nikoli stitch in time Awakeri Top School team 2011
Finally it's the Stitch in Time. Ten minutes of hard running. Nikoli and Tiaan lead the way, Daniel and the rest of the team are strung out behind. "Go go!" yell Luisa and Dylan. Tired but happy:
Back row: Daniel perkinson, Nikoli Christensen, Dylan Hoefsloot, Jordan Andrew, Tiaan Brownless.
Front: Molly Bradley, Jenna Wilson, Abbey Coventry, Luisa Williams, Mikayla Duffy.
The results are being announced to the big crowd. St Josephs Whakatane have just heard they have won Top School for the very first time!! They go up onto the stage to receive their award. Where is the shield? Kawerau South School left it behind! Oh well...
