Speech Contest Finals 2014

This was the 36th time Awakeri School has run its speech contest. (to see the past winners go to the Academic Archives page). There were eight finalists, from the 16 semifinalists and the 75 year 7 & 8 students who did speeches to begin with! The judges this year were the principal Peter Fitzgerald, Alison Barr (she won the shield in 1971) and Jill McLeod (an English expert).

Keeley Lawton.... She had a mascot called 'Fred' who turned into a couch potato!!	Wonder what I have in my bag? ....chips, chocolate... |not a very healthy snack!! Jana did her speech on 'What is a healthy body image?'
Keeping safe while doing karate!! Interesting....Finn!!	"Keep the good stuff in, chuck the bad stuff out!!" Emily did hers on her healthy role model Lisa Carrington!
Lucille talked about her grandpa in the Netherlands and used the 'Te kete hauora'- the basket of health, as her background!	Luella looked snazzy in her little race car. She was talking about warming up and warming down before and after sports!!
Matthew's speech was very funny!! He talked about breaking the bond between you and the couch!!	Sophie talked about her cousin as her healthy role model!!
Emily came 1st overall!! Well done Emily!!	Jana came 3rd overall!! Nice!!
