This was the 36th time Awakeri School has run its speech contest. (to see the past winners go to the Academic Archives page). There were eight finalists, from the 16 semifinalists and the 75 year 7 & 8 students who did speeches to begin with! The judges this year were the principal Peter Fitzgerald, Alison Barr (she won the shield in 1971) and Jill McLeod (an English expert).
