Speech Contest Finals 2005

After 102 senior speeches, 15 semifinalists we got down to just six great finalists on 28 June 2005. A crowd of seventy people braved the chilly night to enjoy the speeches. Stacey Law impressed the judges (George Chambers, Kath Shaw and Peter Fitzgerald), taking out 1st place. Matthew Reeves came 2nd and Chris Stanton 3rd. The other finalists also impressed and entertained the crowd, with features like Scottish accents, extolling the virtues of being short, explaining their family's addictions, etc.

Here are the finalists waiting for the results. Miles, Vincent and Vikki already have their certificates, but who will take the money??

And that famous shield?

Vikki gets her certificate from Mr Fitz. Chief judge George Chambers remarked that she showed the most X factor. Chris (Boy) Stanton came 3rd. His commentaries on Berty Beater and Bett Steele's attitudes to competition were entertaining and thought provoking.
Matthew Reeves nailed 2nd place with some "radical" poetry about competitiveness. He also had some insulting looking photos of his family as props! Stacey grabbed the big prize, making it 3 - 3 between the boys and girls over the last six years. The judge said Stacey's message was very strong and that's what had given her the top prize.
