Speech Contest Finals 2003

The finalists spoke in front of a full house. From left: Neil Sax, Brodi Muschamp, Kelly Stanton, Jordan Macdonald, Paula Roberts and Philippa Haslam. Kelly won the finals, she holds the Oratory Shield, which dates back to 1949. Philippa gave an impressive speech about her Nana being a great role role model through her active lifestyle. Kelly gave an entertaining speech on the SARS virus, and compared it to the spread of the soccer epidemic throughout the world. Chief judge John Twaddle commended her excellent use of props and voice.
Jordan came second with a well structured speech on passive smoking. Points that he made like smokers only breathing in 15% of the smoke and we get to breathe in the rest were hard hitting, as was his opening about having a loaded gun and who was going to fire it! Neil's healthy role model speech on Lance Armstrong highlighted some inspiring incidents from his life, including a 'don't try this at home' one involving kerosene!
Brodi , the only Year 7 in the finals, came 3rd with a memorable speech on Hiding the Remote and getting out there and doing things.
Her opening as an undertaker "We are gathered here today..." was impressive.
Paula Roberts with a very clever prop. Paula spoke about too much TV watching, eating junk food etc. Her prop's stomach shrank and its square eyes fell off at the appropriate moments!
