Awakeri School

Room 14 Aongatete Lodge Camp

24 - 27 Feb 2015

Day One at camp. Everyone explored the lodge. Callum tries out the confidence course. You needed to be strong to get across this activity. After lunch we explored Katikati. Here is a group (Jake, Ben & Troy) looking at the Central Motors mural in their orienteering quest.
The haiku walkway is always interesting. Back at camp and we swim in the river. Jessica finds a freshwater koura.
On day two we have bus trip to Waihi to look at gold mining. The Martha Mine is fascinating. Our tutor Phil handed around silver and gold for us to have a look at. Inder is holding a troy (!) ounce of gold, worth $1400.
After the gold museum, where we saw preserved thumbs, we went on the train to Waikino. Olivia, Meadow and Jake enjoy the ride. Our friendly ticket collector Ruby let us play dress ups. Caden, Troy and Gene enjoyed it!
Awakeri subway for lunch! Jess makes sure she has plenty of gherkins in her sandwich! Rylee eats her subway sandwich.
To fill in the free time after lunch, people got up to all sorts of things. Livvy B walked up and down the railway tracks. Keegan watched Emily and Caden play dead on the tracks.
Campbell looks through the tunnel of legs. Ben White!! Is he a cricket umpire? Ummmm
We explore the Victoria Stamper Battery. Ryan, Ben O and Gene balance in the old cyanide tanks foundations. Ryan enjoys the lovely geometric shapes.
Our whole group at the Stamper Battery. Apart from our brilliant photographer Pete, who was taking the photo! Click here to see a bigger version of this photo.
Kerry Looney helps Di Wilson and Kirstyn McNeil across the stream on Day Three. The murder game has started. Troy was a great murderer. He killed all but 1 kid and four adults! Gene was one of the first dead! Shayna hasn't even noticed!
A kauri cone was one of the hardest things to find on the treasure hunt. Kaya is impressed. Ben O holds his cone together so it doesn't fall apart.
The tree identification test. Di tests Meadow. It's a tawa tree Meadow! Now it's mock court time. Prosecutor Emily brings the cases to court. Gene is in the dock with Judge Pete and assistant judge Steve listening to witnesses. Parading in your jockeys Gene?
Olivia S tries to talk her way out of trouble. How do you plead Olivia?
Guilty! Oh oops!
Leona is found guilty of not doing the moonwalk for everyone. Guess what her punishment is!! Meadow also got caught up in the case and was also guilty!
Jessica is guilty of not deleting photos off her camera that showed Jake with some unflattering facials. Her punishment? To take some lovely photos of him and not delete them!! Day Four. We raft up at Waimarino. Our instructor James did a good job teaching us how to rescue each other and making us feel confident.
Gene does the ninja balance on the front of his kayak. Inder! Don't tip out!!
Meadow does the Waimarino low rider on the back of her kayak. Reaf plays shark and seal. Are you a shark Reaf??
After lunch we did the shore activities. Campbell leaps off the high diving board. Lucky he didn't so a belly buster like Ryan did! Gene tries to hang onto his mat coming off the hydroslide.
Rylee doesn't even try to hang onto her mat! Olivia S came down the hydro slide in a kayak!!
Emily came down backwards in a kayak!! Jessica flies out on the Tarzan swing!
The blob is always entertaining! Callum flies high into the air! Reaf is about to get double blobbed!
Shane Forsyth signals thumbs up to be blobbed by Reaf and Meadow!
We all made it safely home afterwards, tired and happy!
