Awakeri School

Room 14 Aongatete Lodge Camp

25 - 28 Feb 2014

Day One and we're orienteering around Katikati. Alisha and Rhylee search for answers in one of the murals. Amelie, Lucille and Tylah find out about Dr Joe.
It was a very hot afternoon doing the orienteering. These people are waiting for the rest of the groups to get back to the start point. Luckily there is some shade. Once we're back at camp, it's off to the river for a swim. The water is refreshing! Rylie warms up on a rock.
The rocks were fairly slippery. Here's Emily trying to get up onto a rock! Day Two is our Gold day. Here we are on the bus going around Martha Mine. Everyone enjoys holding a troy ounce of gold. At today's prices it's worth $1600.
Next up we're at the Waihi station, catching the train to Waikino. We didn't get into trouble for boarding the train early at this station!! On the train, there's always the record of how many truck toots we can get. We got to 23.5, only half a truck from equalling the record! Emily and Ryan are enjoying the ride.
Amelie
At Waikino, we have our usual subway lunch. Corbin and Marshall reckon it's tasty! People do all sorts of things in their spare time. Amelie stacks up the hats!
We walk round the remains of the Victoria Stamper Battery. These are the foundations of the cyanide tanks. The tanks rose 15 metres high above them in the old days. Our whole group, in front of the Pump House at Waihi. Powered by a steam engine, it could pump 7000 litres of water a minute out of the mine!
Luella
Back at camp and there's always the confience course to strengthen yourself on. Luella swings easily, while Zoe enjoys a rest and Tara lines up her next challenge. After dinner, diary, a game there's singing and then bed. Linette, Taryn, Nicole, Luella and Tessa look a bit worn out.
River crossing Lucille Smits
Crossing the river during our bush walk the next day. Don't fall in! Oh no! Lucille is dead! She is one of Tawari's four victims.
Mr Hawkes Sapphirie springs
We had to feel the bark of a tree and say what tree it is. This is Mr Hawkes testing Lochie. Having fun at Sapphire Springs. Looks like Emily is Flying!
Volley Ball Girls
At lunch the boys and some girls were playing volley ball..... And the rest of the girls were dancing. Zoe, Emily, Luella, Taryn, Amelie, Lucille and Shardae.
Mock Court
Later that night we played Mock court. Nigel was the judge and Emily was the prosecutor. Steve Dodson is in the dock for his bad singing in the car. The rest of us waiting to see what will happen next.
Jacob Davis Kayaking
Jacob is being launched into the water; at Waimarino the next day. This was our first raft up. Pretty good right? Corbin was being taught how to be rescued when he tips out.
Nigel Wilson Girls in the spa
Nigel comes flying down the water slide backwards. Taryn, Tara and Brya are relaxing in the spa.
Getting ready for the Blob Ronan Whitely
People are waiting to jump off the blob. We are showing how we feel about it. Left to right: Linette, Tylah, Nicole, Robbie, Matthys and Ronan. Ronan is coming down the Hydro slide. Go Ronan!
UFO Everyone had fun on the UFO. This was first year it was here. Overall CAMP WAS AWESOME!
