Awakeri School

Room 14 Blair Lodge Camp

9-12 March 2010

Day One: Here we are in Katikati, orienteering. How much was the Harcourts property of the week??? We had to go in and ask. It was $2.9 million!! Lance is choosing his favourite Haiku from the 202 contest.
Back at camp we go for a swim in the river. Here's Ashleigh enjoying a swim upstream. Elise relaxes on the water, whiile Aroha tries to get the courage to jump in!
Finally she's in. Nikki and Aroha make impressive water spirals with their hair! Day Two: Our gold day. Here's Ian at the Waihi Museum explaining about steam engines and how they drove the mine before electricity and fuels like petrol came along.
We're on the train to Waikino to see the stamper battery where they used to crush the quartz and extract the silver amd gold. Sam is enjoying the ride. So is Georgia!
This is the Martha Mine open cast hole. Those trucks and diggers look like little toys! Back at Blair Lodge camp. One at a time on the trampoline people! "We're not bouncing!"
Rather than walk to the river, Mrs McPherson gets out the hose and sprays people while they bounce on the tramp. Sam can still do a flip! Meanwhile.... Cabhain is being transformed into his female form Cabhainita! He got charged in the mock court for bringing his sister to camp without paying! Nikki, Aroha and Sophie try to 'outmodel' him!
Georgia's grandmother Truus got people playing well at table tennis. Elise looks surprised by her skill! Meanwhile, outside there is a good game of scrag going on. Brad tries to wrestle the ball off Aroha.
Mr Hawkes is tackled, or is he trying to squash someone? Jaydon, Daniel, Mitchell and Michael make the most of it! Mr Howard tries to get the ball off that tricky runner Ben!
Some people are still finishing their dinner, while others are getting a head start on their diaries. Day Three: We are in the Kaimais, on a bush walk. Here's the river crossing. Later we have to identify trees blindfolded!
Now we're at Sapphire Springs. Mrs Luca is checking off people who can tow their buddy using sidestroke for 15 metres. Michael is using his boogie board in the warm deep pool.
Lance comes down the little slide face first. Parents versus kids in the pool. Look out Sam!
Now its lunch time. Sam and his mum are worn out by all the activity! Back at camp, it's activities. Jaydon does well in the archery.
Ashleigh, Nikki and Aroha get ready for another lap of the bmx track. Bradley leads the way up the track. Bryce, Holly and Tiaan use their muscles to push up hill too.
At the shooting range, Elise fires the bb gun like a professional. Josh loads up the air rifle for another shot.
Sam aims at the targets. Can he make the water bottle bleed? Now it's the mock court, Judge John Howard presiding, with prosecutor Nikki Turpie. The first case is Abbey. She was accused of being obsessed with the dishes. Guilty! Her punishment was to NOT do the dishes for the rest of the camp!
Now Daniel Gow is in the dock. Who is this giving evidence? It's his mother Karen! Is she a biased witness? Certainly! Daniel was found guilty of leaving his bag behind on the track. The punishment was having to carry his mother's bags when we left camp! The audience in the court enjoy the fun.
Bradley is accused off horrible crimes - "cut us up and gouge our eyes." His cabin - Sam H, Reilly, Rico and Sam M - are happy to give evidence against him! Guilty!!! Brad had to sing Happy Birthday to Jaydon! Here's Georgia swearing to tell the facts, the whole horrible facts.... Alicia looks afraid of what she will say! But Georgia was trying to defend her. Alicia was guilty off putting biscuit crumbs in Ashleigh's sleeping bag. They both ended up eating dry Weetbix!
Judge Howard reminds the jury to come to the right decision, or else!! Georgia has to change her mind about Bryce being not guilty! Should the audience be having this much fun?? Cohen, Sue, Vikki, Joshua and Bryce enjoy the arguments!
Day Four: The last day of camp. We're at Waimarino. Dave and Dave, our tutors get us organised into buddies. Buddy hug everyone! Oops, now if you break a rule it's 10 press ups for you AND your buddy. Aroha and Nikki did 100 press ups, because Aroha kept using the 'cold' word. Here are Lance and Sam doing some of their 40 press ups. They got caught using the 'freezing' word, and running!
Jaydon flies off the hydroslide, water impact coming up!! In the background Mrs Gow rescues Daniel. Cabhain makes a leap off the high board.
Brad does a backward flip off the diving board. In the distance you can see another group rafting up in their kayaks. Ashleigh is hanging onto her mat, ready to smack into the river. Behind her you can see the Tarzan and Jane swing getting ready.
We're not allowed to use the ultra any more, sadly. Instead there is the Blob at Waimarino. You get fired high into the air when someone jumps off the platform on to the other end of it! Go Jaydon!! Dean is waiting to be launched, so here are two people - Rico and Sam McP - trying to give him some air!
Now camp's over, we're tired, happy and back to school!
