Awakeri School

Room 14 Blair Lodge Camp

24 - 27 March 2009

Day One. Here we are orienteering around Katikati. We found lots of answers to the questions. Kurt and his dad are enjoying themselves! Miss Robb found a good seat to supervise us from! You can see Shayne and Toby coming past with their question sheets. Shayne showed he could do anything, even with crutches!
When we got back, we went for a swim in the river. Jennifer shows, it wasn't all that warm! Brain freeze was a game the boys made up in the river. Oliver and Chris were champs at it! Here are Ben and Caleb surfacing first.
Day Two. Taylah is enjoying her walk to Kauri Grove. She spotted all the treasure hunt items. Dean's mum tests him out on the blindfold test to identify trees by their bark. Don't push him in the river Karen!
Crossing the river on the walk was a highlight. Olivia and co show you can fit quite a few people on one rock! Kelsey fell in! She managed to get totally soaked. Kelsei, Shjara and Aroha are impressed!
Zac showed there's more than one way of going down a slide. The parents and the kids played keeping the ball off each other. Grant is being attacked by Dean. Lisa's strategy was just to hold the ball up high!
Susy, Teena and Kurt have a good fight over the ball. Ezra is a very fit biker. He has good balance too.
Grant ended up getting prosecuted for this, riding around on a little kid's bike. The helmet strap came across his nose! Cabin 4 used a convenient palm tree to hang their clothes on.
Day Three. Our teacher at the Waihi Museum, Ian, gave us a really interesting talk about gold mining in the old days. He also had working models of steam engines etc. Shayne could do anything, despite his crutches. Here he is walking backwards along one railway track!
Here we are on the Goldfields Railway. Lots of truck and car drivers waved or tooted their horns back at us! Subway, Awakeri style at the Victoria Stamper Battery.
Jimikah, Caleb, Josh and Kayla show off their balancing skills on the railway lines. Kelsey sees what it's like having an ounce of gold on her finger. Silver next!
Now it's mock court time. Judge Luke and Jester Grant have Kurt in the dock. He was fund guilty of talking and keeping everyone awake, so he was sentenced to tell us a two minute story. It was great, the story of Cam and Josh and their round the world trip! Day Four. Now we're at Waimarino. Here's Jennifer showing how far you shoot off the water slide before you hit the river! SMACK!
Jason does a cool back flip off the high diving board. Kelsey was the first girl to do the ultra high jump. Parents Lisa and Teena also were brave enough to do it.
Kurt broke the record for the number of ultra jumps. Twenty five!!! This poor kayaker from Papamoa drifted into our drop zone and then got stuck under the water slide, filling up her canoe with water!
Oliver was the first to kayak down the water slide. Go Ollie! Here's Zac, finally standing up on the ultra, after a long time getting his courage. Jump Zac, jump!
Shjara swings out on the Tarzan and Jane swing. Let go now Shjara! Vrinda enjoys the slip n slide.
Oh no, Aroha has started running again! She and buddy Taylah have to do another ten press-ups! Warming up in the warm pool. Shall we chillax? Nah, lets make a whirlpool!
Here we are about to leave Blair Lodge. It's been a great week. Well done everyone.
