Awakeri School

Rooms 12, 13, and 14 Science Trip to Otarawairere Bay
February 2008

We had a really exciting day at Otarawaire, exploring the rock pools that were all over the beach. Here is Jaime and Renko who are exploring in their rock pool. We looked in lots of rock pools in the low tide and high tide and compared the creatures that lived there. This is a photo of a kina, a crab and a marine worm.
While we were looking at the rock pools we found cool creatures like starfish and octopus. Can you spot the octopus in this photo? Here is Jennifer working hard at the low tide rock pools. We needed to identify six creatures and see what they were doing and where they lived.
Here's a huge crab that we found in the high tide rock pools. The crabs were really big in that area. Isaac has found a high tide pool all for himself.
Here are some of the groups studying their high tide pools. Will the creatures that live there be different to the ones that have the low tide pools as their habitat? At the end of the day we all went for a swim. The water was refreshing after being in the sun all day. Then we would walk back to the Ohope beach ready to go back to school.

Here we are waiting for another wave to come in!
