Hawea had a truck load of kiekie. He spotted people at the marae and asked for help to strip it down, so it could be scalded in the hot pools in Rotorua, then dried, dyed and woven into tukutuku. Room 13 were happy to help! Everyone had fun at the marae, even Room 14's growing collection of injured students! Matthys, Corbin and Luella are on crutches. Ryan, Robbie, Caleb, Tara and Zoe support them.
Every day Mr Hawkes took the new group on a history walk. Here are rooms 13, 6 & 7 learning about the landing of the Mataatua. Room 13 gather in front of the waka shelter. Those carvings tell many stories!
Emily, Lucille and Tylah make up their own rakau moves. Cody Archer stands beside the amo of Wairaka wharenui.

Adele's Mum, Adele, Sophie, Sarah, and Chloe catch up on the latest gossip, relaxing at the marae. Chloe does not like photos!! Room 13, 12, and 14 all went to the visitors centre at the Mataatua Marae. They had a work sheet to do on the history of Whakatane and the Mataatua Marae.
Harakeke was an activity that Whaea Andrea took. Nicole and Maci show off their Flax Flowers... Nice Girls!! Chloe and Poppy make up a story about the large painting in the wharekai. Their junior students are entranced.
Jack reads a book in te Reo Maori to his group of juniors. String games were popular for the seniors to teach the juniors.
