Awakeri School

Wairaka Marae November 2006

Lisa, and Christine call on rooms 13, 9 and 10 with a karanga Later on, Nikau, Cam and Sydney welcome them with their whaikorero.
Sam and Taylah say their whaikorero on behalf of the manuhiri (visitors). Ari's dad supports them. Zara enjoys a Hongi from Mr. Hawkes. For once he doesn't head butt her. Kate can't wait for hers!
Room 12 (and Jemma and Jordyn) line up for the hongi. The line looks like it never ends! There were only 96 visitors! Aroha, Selena, Harry and others stand by Muriwai's cave entrance. We had to wash our hands when we came out.
It was really cool, because Ben could do everything, including the whaikorero, even though he was carted everywhere by Joel and Pete!
" Don't go falling through glass doors," advises Ben.
Siri shows every one how to make flax flowers...
and so does Jordyn... and so does Andrew...
but poor Selena still needs A LOT of help!!! Anita works hard, trying to perfect her awesome stetch of the front of the wharenui
Andrea braids Jordyn's hair, while Jordyn lets everyone know how much pain she is in! Our "chefs" prepare and serve the food to our satisfaction. Ka pai te kai! Kia ora Judy McConway, Mr Fitz and Bronwyn Jones.
Leigh tells her group all about the murals on the wall of the wharekai. Room 10 also acted out their myths and legends later on. You can see one of them on the right. Renee and Pawanpreet play rakau...Renee attempts to do it blindfolded...Well, with her eyes closed!
Stephen tries to sleep, but no one will be QUIET! Not really, it's still daytime, but he's getting ready for the night. The girls were enjoying a day of skipping in the sun...THEY GOT A TAD SUNBURNT THOUGH!

Room 10 poses for a photo outside the wharenui. Everyone else had gone and room ten were the last group for the week. Haere ra Awakeri School! E noho ra!
