Awakeri School

Kapa Haka 2009

Some Pictures from the Rangitaiki Festival (more to come...)

Some people get all the attention!! No, she's worth it! This is our main girl leader Kelsei Ingle getting the last minute make over from Andrea, with help from Abby and advice from kuia Tarawera, I mean Olivia. Our group ready, before we go on. Click here for a bigger picture.
There's a big crowd in the hall and they loved us! We greeted all the mountains, the river etc. Here's Olivia impersonating Tarawera!
Josh Ridley doing the whaikorero. He got 3rd place, against all the teams, competitive and novice, and lots of laughs and response from the crowd. Now we're into the poi. Jimikah and Shelby light the place up with their smiles. This is pipiwharauroa.
Here are Mikayla, Aroha and Kyla doing the tirairaka poi. Now it's the haka. Good pukana Jesse and Tio!
Our leaders with tutor Siri Riini. Aroha Leighton, Kelsei Ingle, Shjara Dakin, Oliver Richmond and Joshua Ridley (who came 3rd in the whaikorero). The march off, here's Jesse flying across the stage as we do the final chant "he tipuna whakatere waka"!
Below are some wider photos.....
The waiata koroua backs up Josh's whaikorero. "Tena koutou rau rangatira ma..."
Watch those poi fly. "Ko wai tera?.... Ko tirairaka!"
Tiwhanawhana ana...
The boys did well in their haka. "Ko te kura o Awakeri e ngunguru nei..."
