Awakeri School

Kapa Haka 2008

Pictures from the Rangitaiki Festival

Kayne's dad Paul has just finished putting a half moko on Kayne, our main boy leader. Alex holds the rakau, leading the march on, singing Anei Ra Matou with Rachael and Carrie.
Kayne gives his whaikorero..."He maha nga tae o nga makawe!"

The group back Kayne up by singing the waiata koroua... "Kaore te po nei morikarika noa..."
Oh they've picked a long one says one of the kuia in the big crowd!
The video camera is sending its pictures to the auditorium. The College hall was often packed out, with long queues trying to get in. A lot of people had to go watch the big screen.

Now it's the poi! Did the girls smile?? Kyla and Aroha sure did! Brittany and Mikayla are in the front row, Taylah looks to the heavens, but Rach and Carrie know what they're doing!
Elaine can smile! "See, I'm not even looking sideways!" The poi are blurring...Maraea in front, Melody and Kelsei in the second row and Aroha e tu ana.
The girls are smiling right out on the ends of the rows too. Tiaan, Kayleigh, Jaime and Vanessa look very sweet! The girls backed up the boys haka too. Here's Carrie doing a choice pukana behind Alex and Josh.
Kayne gets the boys going...Ko te kura o Awakeri e ngunguru nei! Dylan and Fletcher give it heaps.
Here are the kotiro... E rere taku poi, e rere taku poi...
Now it's over, our march off. Paddle that waka in time boys! "Ka tu ihiihi, ka tu wanawana"
"M a u r i o r a !"
Don't we look ataahua! Beautiful! Click here to see a big version of this picture.
Wohh! it's all over. Our wonderful girl leaders pose with Siri, our wonderful tutor. Elaine, Rachael and Carrie give their loveliest smiles........... and their best P U K A N A !!!!
