Awakeri School

Year 7 & 8 Intensive 2018

The first day of intensive started with the year sevens doing team building activities, like playing mass soccer. Joseph Spalding in the blue team tries to get past defender Jamie Hawkes of the green team. Yellow team's Summer Jones looks for the next goal to score in.
Next up was a technology challenge. The teams built a stretcher in the bush to carry out an injured person. Jasmine K, Mikayla BR, Katelyn P and Jon TS carry out Ethan H. Lucy J, Cody A, Zealia P, Joseph, Addi D and Jamie carry out Bailey McD.
Celeste G, Joseph B and Leah R get ready to lift Cole B. Summer J looks rather worried about being carried by Cody N, Kennedy, Charlie C, the happy Vaughan H and Jemma S.
Joel J, Devon Mc, James S and Charlee C have nearly got Angus out of the bush. Ethan Heal shows his self made leg brace. Nice work!
Next up, the year 6s and 7s read stories to the juniors. Reghan Harrod reads to Leo. Tejay Robinson has Isabella entranced.
Jade Rika has her two juniors well tuned in. So does Ashlee Jennings.
Jake Laurent and Guanyu Liu read to Javaal and Flynn. Tyler Kerdemelidis gets right into his story telling. Eli is enjoying it
Lily Muggeridge holds the book up well for Ella to see the pictures, just like Mrs Elliot had demonstrated. That book was finished. Cody Parsons takes Lincoln to choose another one.
After that, the year 7s and 6s organised games for their juniors. Brooke Nolan explains things to her group. Ella Murphy, Kenna Baker, Jemma Snow and Leah Rowe's were playing Red Light Green Light. Tanner has frozen in his position because Jemma has turned around.
Ani Doherty and Kendall McKane's group have a game involving a parachute. Later in the day, the year sevens worked on House plans for next year. Meanwhile, the year eights were at the stadium in Whakatane. They were also using a parachute for a while, before splitting into teams to play sports. Mrs D explains the activity. The swimmers had to watch out foir the sharks (under the mat).
In this game people are trying to keep the ball on the other side. Look out Brodi! Kaia and Teigan were out! Josh and Oscar are life guards. They are saving Kalib from the sharks
Jamie has been caught by a shark Mitchell is trying to save Shaun from another shark attack!
On the second day, half of the year eights went to golf at Te Teko. Rhys Robertson has just nailed a 20m putt. He was down below the green, in fact, he could only just see the top half of the flag! Meanwhile, the other year eights started at the skate park. Here is Kaia Hose trying out some scooter skills.
Mia Sutton juggles a football, while standing on the 'nipple'. How many people could fit up there?
Our record was ten! Then we went to Tauwhare Pa site. We explored the pa site, listened to a story about an incident that happened there, then played a game.
On the second day, the year sevens were at Thornton. To start with we all had a hoop each, and if the person in the middle calls out something that involves you, you had to run to another hoop. We were in groups. Lily's group is trying to pass the hoop around without letting go any hands. After that they had to pass two hoops! Lily, Nathan, Shaun, Jon, Addison and Kennedy were in the group.
Celeste's group managed to do the one hoop challenge, but the second one was toooooo much. Celeste, Angus, Kohen, Mikayla, Katelyn and Michael pass the hoop around. In the same groups, we had two magical gumboots, we had to get everyone across to the other side, but we could only wear the guboots once. Phoebe had to carry Summer and Zealia across.
Jamie carries Ollie and Kendall. Don't let him go, Jamie! On the second attempt Jamie makes it. Behind them was Odin and Joseph.
