Awakeri School

Year 7 & 8 Intensive 2016

On the first day of intensives, the year sevens had team bonding and leadership training. They started off with a game of mass soccer.
The year eights were away in Whakatane doing indoors sports and going to the swimming pool and hydro slide.
Then there was a technology challenge. Inspired by the earthquakes in Kaikoura, Mr Fitz organised a challenge to make a stretcher that could carry a team member safely to the events centre. Three out of the six teams managed it!
This team work hard to build a strong stretcher. Riley looks a bit nervous as her group lifts her off the ground!
Not far to go now! Vinnie, Jake, Lilli and Joel carry Rheet safely to the finish line. Next the year 6 & 7s read stories to the junior kids. Here is Taya with her students. After that, they organised a game for the same group of children
Samantha, and Ayla get their group of juniors organised for a game. Cole and Jack teach their students what to do.
Cate and Riley made up a cool obstacle course game. The junior boys beat their teachers in soccer!
In the afternoon the year sevens made new house flags, signs and chants for next year. Sammi and Lily paint up Rata's flag. Rheet admires the Kowhai flag while Ethan and Tawha share the new chant with Sam and Oscar. It's based on the Boil Up Song!
Summer, Samantha and Bradley work on Rimu's flag. Mrs Howard watches Tawa at work: Jack, Fletcher, Joel and Cody.
Here are some photos of the year eights on the second day. A small group went to golf at Te Teko. Matthew Reihana-Asquith lines up a putt under the watchful eye of Kate Robbie. Cody Cook lines up a long shot.
Alex Cameron sends the ball way down the fareway. Jesse Deane has a look at his putt.
Meanwhile, the rest of the year eights were at the skate park, then they went on to Tauwhare Pa site. Lots of people had scooters. Caden and Codi Laurent decide on their next moves, while Jessica Bell, Paige Carter and Inder Aujla look on. Campbell Forsyth had some tricky moves coming out of the bowl.
The Laurent cousins under scrutiny from Aleisha Boyce, Amber Fort, Lucy Knott and poor old Tayla Jones on crutches after damaging her knee doing the Toi's Challenge. Lucy has a slide on her cardboard vehicle.
Ben Olifiers, Tiaki Hori, Ryan Mapu and Caleb MacKenzie. Troy grinds along the box.
It's nice just hanging out together. Aleisha, Amber, Jessica, Lucy, Paige. Pete Olifiers helps Inder get confident on the skateboard.
Olivia Sheaff and Olivia Benner have a go on the roller skates. Haylee Schuler and Alex Robbie cruise around on the skates.
Meanwhile, some year eights were playing Cheat Tag on the playground next door. Tiaki is trying to get Manaia. Kaleb Muggeridge has a good hiding space!
