Awakeri School

Year 7 & 8 Intensive 2009

On the Thursday, the year sevens and sixes worked on leadership training at school while the year eights went to Whakatane to do activities. Here's Abbey reading expressively to Stacie and Rylee. Brianna's juniors Beth and Prabhnoor, plus Mrs Stitchberry, are enjoying her story.
Dillon has most of his juniors entranced: Ethan, Noah and Caden. and so has Joshua. Monique and Jack listen to him read.
Nikki has fun reading to her group too. Cody, Renske and Anika are loving The Aliens Are Coming. Next, the year 7s and 6s teach their juniors games. Aroha, Taylah and Shjara get their group running around.
Brianna and Vrinda's group have fun passing a hoop around the group. Duck duck goose, with Kyla, Nicole and Jordan.
Ollie's group are teaching T-ball. Ollie says, "If you hit it over the side line, you're out. I'll show you." Ollie then hits the ball into the tree! They eventually shake another ball out of the tree and carry on the game!
Run Sam run! Sam is being chased by Levi in a game of Seaweed. Meanwhile, the year eights are in town. They have fun at the Aquatic Centre. Abbey and Kara slide down, or is it up?!
Then off to the gym. Instructor Jodie gets everyone doing martial arts moves... karate dance moves, like the palm punch....
forward kicks, back kicks, side kicks... This is a strength test. See how long you can hold yourself on your elbows and your toes before you collapse. Sam B lasted the longest. Go Emily go!
Blake and Shayne are very focused. The next day the year sevens go to Barrs' Farm and do team building activities. Only the gumboots are allowed to touch the ground! Bradley carries Ben and Shane the eight metres.
"Don't squeeze too tight!" thinks Ben!
Holly's group work well together. Sophie jumps over the fence with help from Bradley and Hamish. Stretch out Josh! Nikki reaches out a helping hand.
Don't dig those spurs in Aroha! Just as well they're light! Ezra struggles along carrying Shana and TJ.
Meanwhile, the year eights have gone to golf, or the skate park, pa site trip. Here's Zac on his "skate board"! Emily has great trouble getting out of the bowl on her roller blades!
Nothing like a random game of soccer in the bowl. Dean shows off his skills. At the pa site, Room 12 defended very well. Here's the 'dead' Blake doing his dance to get a new life!
Jesse races back to the hospital. Mrs Cronin needs a spot of life dancing too.
Finally, we all meet up at the Awakeri Hot Springs. Jen looks exhausted! Zack bites in to a sausage. Jimikah ate eleven and a half, and she could still swim!
