Awakeri School

Year 7 & 8 Intensive 2006

On Thursday the Year 7's had a day of leadership training, They started with a technology challenge. Here are Stephen, Pawanpreet, Maurice and Victoria getting their tower up. Then the Year 7s and 6s practised reading to the juniors. Morgan van der Wouden reads What's Up The Coconut Tree to Kayla.
Alex has found a very comfortable place to read to his juniors Cameron and Jamie. Joel's reading has Lachlan and Morgan listening well.
Khyron reads to Ruby and Bryce. Meron makes her story exciting.
Here are the year sevens. The year eights are all off to Tauranga for the day. Next, the year 7s had to teach their juniors a game to play. Tyler and Jacob give their juniors quite a challenge!
It was an exciting game of tag. Here goes Aimee! Here comes Caitlin!
Emma and Jessie think it is very funny! Stuck in the mud! Pete rescues one of his little players, Ollie.
Now the year 7s are getting new flags, banners and chants ready for their houses next year. Josh, Joel and Jemma are painting Rata's flag. Meanwhile, on Friday, the year 8s were at golf or the pa site. This group started at the skate park. Here are Dandan, Terri-Anne and Steffi about to race down the bank. Hang on Steffi! Where's your skate board? "It's OK I'm just sliding in my shorts!"
Karis and Danni didn't have skateboards or bikes either, but they still had their imaginations! Kirsty just rolled down into the bowl. It looks like she needs rescuing, but no one jumped in!
Next they went to Tauwhare Pa. After a good look around, a mock battle ensued. Here are the attackers taking off. The defenders are well spread out. Mr Hawkes tries to sneak up the side of the bank, but Dandan spots him. He tries to grab her foot out from under her, but she has plenty of support ready.
Amanda has made it to safety in the pa. Johan vander Wouden says "That's one, three to go!" Now the groups have swapped. Some people were killed seven times!

Meanwhile, the year 7's were doing other team building activities. Here is Kelsi's team attempting to get get across the creek...

...and they're nearly there. It's just Stephen to go now. They are so far away from the stump, that I don't think they'll ever make it!
Kelli and Manpreet have just emptied the water from the bucket into the barrel. Luckily this year they didn't have a leaky bucket. Hey, what's Emma doing? "Emma, the bucket's this way!" Christine tries to direct Emma to the bucket. At the hot pools, the year 7s and 8s met up. Here are Karis and Jemma standing on their partners' shoulders (Aimee and Zoe). Either Asher is too weak, or Kayla just can't manage to stand up!
