AWAKERI SCHOOL
PRESENTS.....
Starblaze
Music by: Shade Smith
Script By: John Reynolds

Our fabulous kapa haka opened the show. Their first waiata was He Kakano Ahau, all about us growing up.
Tawari Stanley, our excellent boy leader, did a korero dedicating the performance to Siri Riini, Irene Cronin, AJ Barr and Whaea Andrea's uncle who just recently passed away. Our group was very together, as the holding hands and swaying in unison showed from the beginning.
Then we're into the haka. Tiwhanawhana ana. Pukanas at the end of the haka.
Next up our action song about some history of Awakeri.... Hape Ki Tumanui. It's about why Awakeri is a great area for growing things. Tine ataahua!! Luella, Taryn, Acacia, Linette, Poppy, Katie and Valerie.
Gorgeous smiles from Renske and Sophie. Shayna looks commending in Hape.
The different faces of kapa haka! Emily always lights up the stage with her smiles. Ryan and Rylee have other things on their minds! Pukana atu!
Brodie is an up and coming kapa haka star. We will need the young ones when our excellent crop of year eights leave at the end of this year. Sadly we have no photos of the poi ( the lighting was too ultra violet!!), but the performance finished with Tutira Mai and a rousing chant. Our two main leaders Tawari Stanley and Poppy Rika lead the chant.
Dress rehearsals are fun! Here are the pirates' guards back stage. Isaiah, Nakisha, Tylah, Tessa and Marshall. Between the kapa haka and the show, these four flautists entertain everyone. Renske, Amelie, Theresa and Emily play three songs.
We have a ten person orchestra in the pit. Here is pianist George Hannah. Captain Sanderson (Emily Julian) is the leader of the space pirates. Their ship is captured and made to land on the planet Zodark. Zoe, a space pirate, looks rather worried about her leader!
The show's director Peter Fitzgerald had the hassles of missing lighting leads and blown sound fuses to deal with as well as getting the show rehearsed! Early in the show the space pirates have an interested look at the heavies, who later in the show they become even more interested in! Linette, Taryn, Zoe and Jenae keep them under control.
Dr Sneech (Finn Spod) is a baddie. But the pirates don't realise. Here he is complaining to the captain about Sandy's behaviour. The pirates enjoy a rock and roll song (Rocket and a Roll It). Taryn Forbes is singing, while Linette and Poppy dance.
After Sandy is left all alone, Astro sneaks in and is scared because Sandy is a space pirate. Sandy soon convinces her that she is not "a cruel merciless killer." Sandy and Astro (aka Jadyn Wilkinson and Alex Robbie) are singing Creatures, which is about the Horriffs who they are terrified of. "For death there's no cure..."
Odium (Ben White), the evil dictator of the universe has caught Sandy. "You don't want anything to happen to your darling daughter, do you?" he asks Captain Sanderson. However, Sandy knows karate and Odium gets tied up by the space pirates. Here are Joel and Ella tying him up.
Cosmo (Matthew Webb) is the leader of the Zodarks. He is worried about his missing daughter Astro. Odium declares a holiday, so there are entertainers. Jana Longney plays keyboard.
A group of entertainers (Young and Famous) sing Titanium (by David Guetta). Poppy and Matthew are on guitar. Emily, Zoe, Shardae, Taryn, Jenae, Lilly and Jadyn are the singers. The Horriffs arrive. Their leader Colosso (Luella Howe) leads a dance.
Dr Sneech has his mind positively swarming with ideas for germ warfare weapons. Captain Sanderson realises that the Horriffs are actually warm and friendly.
Ryan, Darcy, Korben and Troy are Odium's heavies. They form a firing squad to kill Captain Sanderson and Cosmo. Luckily the Horriffs arrive and interrupt. Odium has been made fun of by Sandy and Astro, so all's well in the end.
