Awakeri School

Room 15

Who are we? Room 15 is an extension room run by the wonderful Mr. Sheather.
This class is also a reading swap and maths swap class.
It Is around behind the B block toilets with a nice big deck so you can work in the sun.

Here is Mr Sheather's brand new class room that the builders worked hard to finish over the summer holidays.


Class News

12.10.09 Last term was packed with Mr Sheather doing production.
Any way on with this term.
This term Mr Sheather is training up a group of people to go in to the BP technology challenge in 3 weeks time.
He is having trials for people from year 4 to year 6.
Last year both teams won prizes.
Fingers crossed for this year's team!


11.09.09
Two days ago it was good luck day for the Chinese 09.09.09.
Tomorrow is 911 which was the bombing of the twin towers.
On to more important things like Mr Sheather and his work around the school
he has been helping Mr fits with the directing of the annual production which this year is Sheik Rattle 'N' Roll tickets are on sale next Monday $8 for an adult and $4 for a child.
This involves year 5-8.
Today the cast will be doing a special sneek peak preformance.

Mr Sheather has a new interactive whiteboard. He was the first teacher in the school to get one for his class. The reading extension.

next week Nikoli, Dillon M, Dylon H, Luisa ,Ruby, Katy-Rose and Miayaare competing in a challenge at Apanui school will they get a place ill post the results next week after the competition.
Rooms 5,6,and 7 are going to research an animal as part of their computer reading.

This morning Room 14 set off their hot air balloons. In action - 3 caught fire and 2 launched and didn't come back. Most of them launched and couldn't get away.

RM 14 started their new topic with Mr. Sheather which is geography which they finished on Tuesday
.
Everyone improved by lots but the top score was 97 set by Susannah Williams. So Suzzy knows where 97 countries are on the World map. I hope she gets to visit them all!!
Here is a funny thing that Mr Sheather told room 14: Hungary got Hungary, slipped on Greece and broke China
.
The final stages of the senior school video clip has started with lots of editing and adding and a few more filming pieces to be done.
Room 9 have been studing about chemistry and they made crystals.

With 3 weeks left of term 2. New extension groups are forming with new people which will mean cool exciting photos and stories.

Room 14 have been issued a challenge to know 30 countries and some continents in 3 weeks their test is tomorrow to see if they meet the challenge.

P.A. test have been going all week the main tests that Mr Sheather has been doing with the junior school
are the Reading, Math and the Listening P.A tests.
This afternoon Mr Sheather is working with the group of senior students with their video abut how cool Awakeri School is.

19.02.09 Mr Sheather has been working with the middle school finding out about how electricity is made in NZ and safety points around electricity.
Some of the senior school students have been working with Mr Sheather making a movie about how cool Awakeri School is.

12.02.09 Hi my name is Kayla and I'm the website monitor for RM 15.
Mr Sheather all ready has his hands full with tech angels and his lessons with all of the middle and senior classes.




Students' Work

Lucas Clarke is launching a bottle rocket.


Here is Rylie Cavey-Bruce higlighting the word shoveled with the mimio. Lucile is highlighting the with mayonaise.




Nicolas has created a car with a controller. Kaya is pushing the technic lego together with his awesome strength.
Oli is focusing on his reading with Mr Sheather. Emily is holding her robot that is got a programme to set tasks for it.


Zoe Bennet is working on the same model as Elisha but of course hers looks better.


Elisha Williams is working hard to get his model made out of technic lego. This is a robot that you can programme to do stuff for a certain time limit, like go backward and spin around.


This is Aroha Leighton's project on the Grand Canyon.


Hamish Inwood worked hard to get his project on the Nasa Space Shuttle finished. Tiaan is happy to start maths swap with Mr Sheather.



Interview with Kelsei Ingle.
We have been working with Mr Sheather on the 7 wonders of the world.
We are doing a study on the wonder that we thought was a cool thing to learn about.
I chose the Leaning Tower of Pisa (a.k.a the Leaning Tower of Pizza).
We get a black piece of paper and we glue our stuff on to the paper so we dont mess up the paper.
They haven't started research yet but the title look pretty awesome.


Room 14 has been working with Mr. Sheather on the wonders of the world. The wonders are buildings like The Space Shuttle, Taj Mahal, Stone Henge and the Sophia Heige.
Room 10 have been attaching batteries to their lightbulb circuits to make the lightbulb light up.
Room 13 have been working with Mr Sheather as well. They are learning about useful computer skills.

 

Teacher's Message

Everyone enjoys working in the new room,
which smells nice and is really cool in the hot afternoons.
Mr. Sheather is not giving up his new class to anyone else.
