Awakeri School
Room
12 in 2006!
Who
are we?
We are an amazing super intelligent class with 31 children with one
weird looking child in our class. (How else do you describe Mr. Hawkes.
Hahahahaha) He even has his own teacher's message at the bottom of the
page. Any way we are a well balanced class with year 7 and 8 boys and
girls. There is a photo of our class below with more details about our
cool class.
 |
This is a picture of our awesome, handsome, fantastic,
pretty (we're not talking about the teacher) intelligent,
talented, unique and funny class. Isn't it wonderful. This photo was taken on
the 23rd August 2006 during maths time. While we were drawing 3D objects. That
may explain why people are walking around with blocks in their hands and with
them on their desks. So thats a little about our class we hope you get the idea
of how wonderful we are. Kate and Selena are not in this picture, as they
took it. Mr. Hawkes is also not in this picture that's why it's so good. |

Klee painted on top. If you would like to see how to make one of these
awesome masks click here.
Today was also our last day of manual (technology)
for the year.
On Friday we had our first look at the movie!! It will need quite a
bit of editing, since a certain camera person accidentally pressed the
record button in a rehearsal last Tuesday, and then turned the camera
off for each proper take of each scene! Woops! Still she has lots of
rehearsals to choose from!
"Day after day I'm more confused, my name is _ _ _ _ _"
8th December 2006
Well today we have MORE radio broadcasts. Yesterday
we had padder tennis with Mrs. Shaw instead of softball. 2 days ago
we beat room 11 girls and our boys beat their boys too. Since we're
girls we don't know their score and when we asked Mr. Hawkes he didn't
know either, even though he refereed the match Shocking really. This
afternoon we are doing music which means MR. Hawkes will be singing
Ahhhh!!!!!!!!!!! He's not that bad at least he knows how to play the
guitar.
For Maori at the moment we are learning the months of the year in Maori
of course. If you want to see what we are trying to learn scroll down
to students work and check them out!!! Also we are learning the days
of the week!!

that were said in them:
There was Eddie's horse race. Brown, Etter, Butler, Hawkes etc. were
in it and Etter came out with the win, with Mower 30 seconds behind
the winner, coming in last place. He interviewed Renee about the race
and she said that she came last but was proud (she had bet on a horse).
This is only a few of the things that was on Edward's
broadcast check more out each day we will be telling you about them.
28th

witch and we saw Kate in a dress!!!!
23rd November 2006
Yesterday we started filming Rhona's movie Don't Answer
the Phone... Today Jayden drove Mr Hawkes's car for the kidnap scene. The
boy super snoopers had to bare their chests for their scene. Meron was grateful
she is a girl!
Meanwhile in class today we have people doing radio broadcasts.
Stephen went first and used a Scottish accent to impersonate Sir Alex Fergusson,
the Man United coach. Toady we had Alex, Cameron and Matthew O. Cameron had a
competition on his broadcast and some people got suckied into thinking it was
for real!

November 2006
Welcome back fans of room 12 page.
I've got bad news and good news. We'll lets start with the good news. We have
just came back from the marae stay. We
all had a wicked time. Bad news is Mr. Hawkes is staying there for the whole week.
Other news is Mrs. Parker teaching us. The final news is Selena, one of the website
monitors for this page, has left me (Kate) and gone off to Fiji (for two weeks)
and I have to do website all by myself. So I'll try
to make this enjoyable to read.
8th November 2006
We
have a fun and a boring day today. We have cool spelling tests and boring radio
broadcasts. Actually its more like the other way around. This is amount of people
in the class that prefer to do spelling test instead of radio broadcast=
4
out of 31 people prefer to do spelling tests. Anyway in class today we are going
over the marae stay, doing maths, writing our self assessments and radio broadcast
the rest of the day is like everyday. Getting back to the marae stay this is what's
happening on Tuesday morning we go to the marae with rooms 5 and 6 where we get
welcomed into marae. After that we are staying the night and will be welcoming
room 11, room 7 and room 8 onto the Marae. Hopefully everyone will have a great
time.

30th October 2006
Today is Monday so you know what that means. Yes you were
right, the other half of room 12 went to manual while the rest of us stayed at
school with Mrs. Parker.
Today we had to do some problem solving which really got our brains Thinking.
But you probably Don't want to know about what we did for maths, you probably
want to know about what happening tomorrow. Well tomorrow is the senior and middle
school athletics. Where our four school houses (Rata-Red
, Rimu-Green , Tawa-Blue and
Kowhai-Yellow) compete in
field events (shot-put, discus, long jump , stand
and jump, vortex and high jump) Then on Friday the whole school has the track
events.
27th
October 2006
It was really strange today in current events we started talking
about fireworks and people were telling stories
about what has happened other years from hedges catching on fire at orchards and
fireworks being made into bombs. Loads of people were talking
about fireworks
going into peoples faces.
Happy Birthday to you, Happy
Birthday to you.
Our teacher celebrates his birthday today.
He is now 21 (yeah right, he wishes!!!) anyway getting back to the subject, it
was really weird because we were meant to be talking about current events not
ones that were about 5 years ago.
25th
October 2006
We have finally finished our stories and we had
three great stories that went into the finals.
Rhona, Rhys and
Meron were our 3 finalists and Rhona
just won with a few more votes then the others. So Rhona is going to
be making her story into a movie. She has got together some people that
are going to turn it into a script, they are Rhona,
Marie-Lousie, Meron, Rhys
and Alex.
This morning we went out side and everyone
jumped two jumps for long jump. Stefan got the furthest with 4.01 meters. We are
going to be finding out what the average jump is for our class, what's the range,
what is the average jump for the year 7 girls, and so on.(We are doing that for
maths).
Today we started practising for the sprints for athletics. We went
out with room 10 and 11. We practised giving the batons to each other for the
relays and we did some sprinting. (200 metres) Then we got some teams together
of 1 year 8 girl and 1 year 8 boy, 1 year 7 girl and one year 7 boy for each class.
Room 12 wasted the other two classes!!!!
17 October Today
we are finishing off our stories that we are going to make into a movie.
On Thursday we have a test for the guitar. We have to play a song to Mr. Hawkes
we also have to SING it. We are also practising for athletics.
For math's
at the moment we are doing algebra. Which is number patterns and things like that.
We have to work out things like what is 3M to the power of 2 - 3 = 72. We have
to work out what M stands for.
10 October 2006
Today we made some cool technic lego gadgets with Mr Sheather. Scroll down to
see some photos. We also have to choose a song to play on the guitar for next
week. Everyone will be practising hard. We are also going to be writing a story
to turn into a movie. Today we looked at last year's cool Atishoo movie.
19th
September 2006
Today we are starting our rate builders
for S.R.A. For maths at the moment
we are doing the perimeter and area of shapes. Some people find it easy and others
find it quite difficult. Right now we are learning the days of the weeks in Maori.
Yesterday everyone in Middle and Senior school went to the little theatre to practice
for tonight, tomorrow and on Thursday night. Remember the tickets are on sale
at the school office. Children are $4 and adults are $8.
12th September 2006
Yesterday the other half of
room 12 that doesn't go to manual finished off their paintings for Robyn Hood.
Check them out in students work.
Also Matthew Orr has died his hair BLONDE.
There is a photo of him with his painting and cool new hair doo in students work.
7th September 2006
Yesterday
we had Mrs. Parker all day. We made 3D shapes. It took us all day. What we had
to do: first we had to get a small plan of the object we were making. Then we
got a big piece of cardboard and we had to enlarge the shape 3x its normal size.
One of the shapes had 4 parts to it. It was tricky. After we had drawn the shape
onto the piece of paper we had to cut it out and colour them in. After we had
coloured them in we put them together with cellertape.
In
our class with Mr. Hawkes today we have diary, maths, Te Reo and current events
until 11.00 and then we have production for the rest of the day. Hopefully everyone
has learnt their lines for production. For art we have been doing our calendar
art. we had to get a picture from the Internet and copy it onto a piece of A4
paper. We have to do it in an artists style. Also in class were making poster
about our school production (Roybn Hood outlaw princess).Tickets are for
sale from tomorrow at our school office. $8 per Adult $4 per child. For Tuesday
and Thursday night. It should be a excited show. Also in class we have 242 yummy
stickers so we're still in it. Also on Tuesday we learnt another two cords on
the guitar we learnt D7 and E so now we know D,A7,G,A,C,D7 and E.
31st August 2006
Today our Robyn hood celebrates her birthday(Asher Jones).
She is now a Teenager.
This morning in class we have been looking at how many
litres go into a litre and how many grams go into a kg and so on This afternoon
we have production practice again and I think we're meant to know our lines. Yesterday
for maths we had to do a maths test. In the test we had to draw 3d shapes and
draw objects. We had to rotate them and reflect them. And some good news we have
now got 147 yummy stickers on our chart, while room 11 has about 500. At least
we're not losing. This morning we also played a very weird maths game. You had
to try and guess a number that the teacher had wrote down. It was challenging.
23 August 2006
Congratulations
Mrs. Bateson. She is now a proud mother of little baby named
Joseph.(For those who don't know Mrs. Bateson, she used to teach half of room
12 when the other half went to manual) We know her baby will grow up healthy
and strong, ready to play netball. Just like her.
Any way in our class we
learnt to new chords on the guitar which are C and A. At the moment we are doing
S.R.A and in about 20 mins we will being going to room 11 to do basketball while
room 11 is coming into our class to do music with Mr. Hawkes.
At the moment
we have 110 yummy stickers on our chart. We are very proud.
22nd
August 2006
Lately
in class we have been studying artists. We have been going onto Encarta and looking
up artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, John Singer and so on.
For maths we have been drawing shapes on a number plane and we are just starting
to draw 3D objects. We are now starting to do jump jam every Friday and Tuesday.
Today we learnt a new dance (Reach For The Stars).
Also there are some photos
of our shark projects that we made a while ago in students work. They look really
cool. There is also a story done by Harry Cotter in students work. It is great.
14th
August 2006
Today we have Mrs. Parker again. This morning
we played math's games and we had to solve some problems. This afternoon we are
continuing with our art. Also this afternoon we have P.E.
9th
August 2006
On Friday night
Jayden Haddock was playing hockey, he was going in to get the ball off someone
when the ball jumped up and hit his eye. He screamed and fell to the ground in
pain. This is what happened from his point of view:
On Friday last week I was playing hockey against Whakatane
Intermediate boys. There was this boy that had the ball and he hit it in front
of him. So I ran to get the ball. Then he ran and he got it. We were wrestling
it out then he put his stick out on a angle and then the ball hit me above the
eye. I dropped to the ground and I think I got knocked out. I couldn't remember
what happened . I could only remember blood all over my arm. I stayed off for
the rest of the game. The next morning I couldn't see and it was black and blue.
If you want to see
a photo of Jayden's black eye, scroll down to students' work. Trust us it looks
painful. Anyway to change the subject, in class at the moment we are reflecting
and rotating shapes. We are still doing S.R.A and Te Reo. We are now learning
the colours for Te Reo. Also another strange thing. Jayden collects the new 20
cent coins. He has 60 of them worth $12 and another strange thing David's chair
lives no more! For funny photos, look in students' work.
4th August 2006
Today we have Mrs. Shaw.
This morning
we had jump jam with room 11 and 10 in the complex we went over the dances that
we had already learnt.
Between play lunch and lunch time we are going to
be writing stories.
On Wednesday we had Miss Barlow. We made some pictures
of a machine that would make something or a dream car of a house for a cat. After
we finished some of us showed the class. She read us a story called granddads
gift by Paul Jennings but we wont tell you about it because we don't want to spoil
the surprise. We also listened to the wolfs side of the three little pigs. Then
we pretended that we were the characters for the story while the rest of the class
asked us questions. We had to answer them how we thought the wolf would answer
them.
Yesterday afternoon we had powerpoint sharing in the library. Some
people had finished some people hadn't. When we went back to class we had to fill
in an evaluation about how well we did our power point. We had to answer questions
like did you cover the criteria, who's powerpoint apart from your own covered
the criteria e.c.t.
Also well done to Stephen for coming first in science
for science fair, Jayden for coming third in the projects and Rhys cram for coming
third = in technology with Chris who's in room 10 and Renee for coming 2nd in
projects.
1st August 2006
Yesterday half of room 12 had Miss Bryson.
We made different stories from the actual 3 little bears. After we finish them
we're going to make them into a book. At manual the other half of the class is
making puppets. In the computer suite we have been learning how to use logo which
is a computer programing language. Also the science fair interviews are today.
Everyone is so scared.
28th July 2006
Today we have Mrs. Shaw, who is taking
over room 11 when Miss Isaac leaves. This morning we played bola maths with her
and we went out and done some fitness.
Yesterday when we had Mr. Hawkes we
learnt how to play a new cord on the guitar and with Mr. Sheather we made leavers
and finished off our camp power points. For
art we are still drawing portaits of people in our class. instead of drawing the
whole body we are now drawing half of the body (the top half).
26th July 2006
On Monday half of room 12 made
play dough for the little kids. We had to design a label for them and actually
make the play dough. We could choose out of three colours blue, red and green
for our play dough, meanwhile the other half of our class was at Edgecumbe College
making beanies and pizza and rings. This afternoon we are doing volleyball with
Miss Isaac. Look in students work for some photos of our cool play dough.
18th July 2006
Welcome back to a new term but we have
some very sad news. Mrs. Bateson is leaving next week because maternity calls.
In class we are starting geometry and for art we are starting self portraits.
Last term half of the class went to manual and the other stayed at school the
half that stayed at school made rock creatures with Mrs. Bateson. Thank you Mrs.
Bateson for teaching us we will miss you.
29th June 2006
Our very own Danny Le Lievre is senior
girls interschool cross country champ. She won by about 300 metres!
Yesterday
lots of us auditioned to try and get a part in the musical Robyn Hood Warrior
Princess. We should hear today or tomorrow, or maybe we won't, "Don't call
us we'll call you," Mr Fitz said.
23rd
June 2006
We have a winner Rhona Whitaker from
room 12 of course won the speech finals.
She was marvelous, she was outstanding,
she was wonderful but so was everyone else.
In
class at the moment we have been doing our soccer world cup studies (s.w.c). We
also had someone else in our class that did very well in the finals it was Marie-Louise.
She came second, But we cant forget about Meron she also did very well. Today
we are starting S.R.A. which is a reading activity. We are also publishing our
favourite poems from some books that we have been reading over the last few weeks.
14th May 2006
Today
we found out who was in the semi finals from our class for the speeches, we have
Lousie Barkema, Harry Cotter, Meron Mc Cardle, Rhona Whitaker and Kate Eggleton
So good luck guys. We all wish you the best in the semi final.
funny fact
Today we were saying the names of objects in the class
in Te Reo and Mr. Hawkes asked Meron what is the word for computer. The right
word was rorohiko which actually means electronic brain and Meron said rorokea
which means bird brain. It was so funny for everyone but Meron!
13th May 2006
On Friday we had Mrs.
Bateson. We did some work on tsunamis and then we made some posters about what
you should and shouldn't do if a tsunami comes. We talked about how they were
made and we read a story and a man named Jesse who had survived a tsunami before.
When we finished our posters we put them up on the board and people voted for
the best one. They couldn't vote for themselves though.
Today we had the
last lot of our speeches. We also had a Te Reo post and pre test. It was hard.
Most people didn't know much.
We have also started a new story called Pooh
Bear. Now you may be thinking Pooh Bear for the most intelligent and wonderful
class but hey you can't
argue with the teacher!
We have also started to
think about science fair.
On Thursday we are going to the fantastic festival.
We are seeing two people an author and a story teller. The semi finals for the
speeches are on Thursday and Friday. We are finding out who is in the semi tomorrow
morning.
8th May 2006
Yesterday we had happy country according to Mr. Hawkes
It is normally called cross country. 3 out of four people won the races in our
class. They were Jayden for the 10 and 11 year old boys, Danielle for the the
12 and 13 year old girls and David won the 12 and 13 year old boys. Kymberly from
room 7 for the 10 and 11 year old girls.
We have also started our speeches.
We listened to 10 people yesterday and we are just about going to listen to 10
people this morning. We are also starting to talk about science fair.
Last
week we were making up plays using sentences we learnt in Te Reo.
Last week
half of room 12 also brought home some beanies and some boats made out of metal.
We are also studying the soccer (I mean football) world cup. We all drew a country
out of a hat and what ever country we got we had to study. Just about everyone
in the whole class wanted to get Brazil. It went around the whole class and guess
who got it? Yep you were right Mr. Hawkes!
funny fact (new idea)
We have
found someone in the class that has a weird talent. Harry Cotter can do the Mexican
wave with his eye brows!
29th May 2006
Well
the sports day and the carpet laying were mini disasters, with our players getting
sent home from the sports venues because the organisers cancelled it late, then
the carpet layer didn't get finished so we had two days out of our room instead
of one. Now some of the carpet is falling off the bottom of the walls.
Shauni
said to Mrs Merry this morning, "Our carpet doesn't smell as much our your
room's does."
Mrs Merry replied, "That's because you didn't have
as much glue!!!"
24th
May 2006
Today our class voted for two people in our
class to represent our class at school and enviro council. Stephen and Louise
are our Enviro reps and Rhona and Selena are on the school council.
19th
May 2006
Today Kate showed the class her play. She got
some people together and they helped her make the play possible. It is about a
class of four children that go to the beach and they go on a boat and something
terrible happens. Sam (Kate) falls into the water and a dolphin (Danielle) saves
her. They then see the dolphin giving birth. The cast is going to do it at a assembly
today at 12 noon.
12th
May 2006
Today we played versibility. Mr. Hawkes read
us 3 lines from a poem and we had to write what we thought the next line would
be. We had some very weird results. Everyone was laughing at at least one of them.
11th May 2006
Today Mrs. Bateson took us.
We all paired up with each other and we had to do an egg project. It was really
strange. After we had finished it we had to show it to the class. We had to make
up a song, a poem and a cartoon character. The character had to have a message
about eggs. At the moment Mr. Hawkes is reading us a book called Night John.
9th May 2006
Today we voted places in the school
that needed improvement. The playground field and the bark on the playground were
voted the most.
1st May 06
Today Mr
Hawkes got an email from Jenny Eather in Australia who developed the excellent
on-line Maths Dictionary that we are having fun using. Mr Hawkes had sent her
an email saying how good the dictionary was.
This is what she said:
Just
paid a quick visit to Room 12 and the amazing super intelligent class with 31
children.
Speaking of making maps you might like to check out the maps on
my new Rainforest maths page at:
http://www.teachers.ash.org.au/jeather/rainforestmaths/RFMG/RFMG.html

26th April 06
Today we're back with a new term and a marvellous teacher
Mr. Hawkes (not) This morning we did a fun maths test (not) for statistics.
On the last week of term 1 we made Christmas stamps with Mrs. Bateson and the
5 best ones were sent in to a draw to win $500 for your self and $1500 for your
school. Your stamp would also be made into a real stamp and would be posted out
world wide.
31st March 06
Yesterday
we went to Otarawairere to study the rock pools, animals and the plants. We had
to fill in some worksheets about the animals and plants that we saw in the high
and low tide pools. At the end of the day we went for a swim. That was everyone's
favourite part.Check out the cool photos of the
trip.
Selena is back from watching the commonwealth games live in Melbourne.
.

March 06
We had a great time at camp. Everyone was enjoying
themselves. Some people even did the ultra high which was 11m high. Mr. Hawkes
is too chicken to do it. It was amazing to see that some adults were jumping from
it. Most of the time we had great weather apart from the last day. For photos
