Awakeri School

Room 12 in 2005

Who are we?

Where to start!!! We are a wonderful class of 34 year 7 & 8's. We are the most intelligent, beautiful and the funniest class in the school. Well, with such a great teacher, what would you expect.
Also in this class, the two greatest website monitors of all time...(click here) to see who they are

Class News
5th December
Today we have FOLK DANCING!!! It's our second session, but there are 15 people away at the manual treat week. They will be away all week, so we will be 15 people short for dancing.
We are carrying on with our virtue posters. Some people are close to finishing, and others are nowhere near finishing.

We also did some orienteering with compasses.
We have four more radio broadcasts today. Alex's, Joseph's, Aroha's and Kirsty's (you can guarantee that that one will be the best!!!)

30th November
Well, some pretty amazing things happened at manual yesterday.
If we were to ask room 12 what the most funniest thing had happened at manual, it would be the teatowel catching fire.

Yes, you guessed it!! It was Chelsie. While melting chocolate on the stove, she held the teatowel so she didn't get burnt!! Well!! That's the wrong idea!! The teatowel caught the element!! Here's what happened!

Haylie-
Chelsie!!! Chelsie!!!
Chelsie-What?
Haylie-Chelsie!!!!!!!!!
Chelsie- AHHHHHHHH!!!!

Well, in a frantic rush to put out the flame, Haylie grabbed the teatowel and started to try and blow out the flame!!
As the flame drew closer to Haylie's hand, she threw it away on the floor!!
In a wink, the hero of the day came. Terri-Anne Hollis!!
In an attempt to put out the flame, she stood on it, trying to stamp it out, when suddenly, her own shoe caught on fire!!
She blew out the flame on her shoe and went back to fight the flame!!
Yes!! Shot Terri!! You saved the day!!

A Very Helpful Tip If you want to swim, you do need your togs!!! (wink wink)

28th November Lots of year 8's are going to the highschools that they enrolled in for an orientation day. Also, we still haven't started swimming because only seven people brought their togs!!!
We have finished filming the movie, and Stacey and a few other people will be editing it today.
We're having three more Radio Broadcasts today. Andrew Scott's, Chris Johnston's, and Matthew Fulton.

We are finally having a library time today. Mr. Hawkes obviously needs to get out a book for himself!!!

Here she is, the writer / director / cameraperson... Stacey. Watch out for the World Premiere of Atisho Atisho We All Fall Down coming soon The superherors are back. In the movie they save the world from the bird flu. Typical!
And Room 12's reward for saving the World? The Queen herself comes to give us her royal condemnation, oh sorry that was a blooper, commendation!

Here is Queen Chelsie I.

"Arise Lady Kimberley, Arise Sir, I mean, Lady Jordyn!!"
"Cut, cut!" shouts Stacey!

24th November
We have just done two radio broadcasts, Shelly's (One triple Fashion) and Chelsie's (Scallywag station). Shelly sang her own song on hers, and, yes, Bryce was on Chelsie's broadcast, and, no, he wasn't Jimi Hendrix OR Elvis Presley!!! We are having another three broadcasts on Monday.

We have started swimming, and our days are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. We didn't go today because hardly anyone brought their togs today because it was freezing!!! So basically, we are starting swimming on Monday!!
We have nearly finished filming the movie, and Alex is making the credits right now.
We have started making Virtue Posters, and we are doing a bit more on them this afternoon.

23rd November Today a certain someone (we're not naming names because Chelsie will get embarrassed!!!) asked Bryce if he wanted to be on her radio broadcast. Here is what happened:
Chelsie: Hey, Bryce, do you want to be on my radio
Bryce: Sure
Chelsie: You can be Jimi Hendrix, and I'll interveiw you
Bryce: But Jimi Hendrix is dead
Chelsie: Oh yeah. Well, what about Elvis Presley?!
Mr. Hawkes had hysterics about that!!!

This afternoon we are making Virtue posters. We are also going out to play volleyball with Miss Isaac while her class plays the drums!!!

21st November Well, Alex has set a new class record!! She has been trying to write with a pencil that's 5.7cm long!! Also, it's manual tomorrow, and everyone is trying to finish off their boxes. Those that have finished will be at cooking, making either; picklets, caramel slice, pizza, fried rice, muffins and chocolate ecclairs. It;s a choiceweek, and they can choose any of those recipes. Some groups are even making two. One group is making pizza, caramel slice AND hokey pokey!!!

A Very Helpful Tip When filming a movie, if you're the cameraman, don't talk while the camera is on!!!

18th November Today we are doing maths test 3 (the times and dividing one). We are also doing geometry. We are filming one of the last scenes of our movie. It's in the class and Mr. Hawkes has just died. There is a huge fight to see who will be the leader, and stuff gets thrown around. The stuff that gets thrown around makes a concoction that falls on the bodies, and brings them back to life, and we all live happily ever after.

A Very Helpful Tip When you do gymnastics, be careful not to land on your head!!!

17th November First thing this morning we are showing our routines to the rest of the class, to select which routines we will be showing at assembly on Friday. Also, summer league hockey has just come around, and it's great to see so many room 12 students have put their names down.

A Very Helpful Tip This is a new section that will be popping up every now and then. It gives helpful tips for something that we might have been doing in class. Todays Very Helpful Tip: When solving math's problems, try to split it into sections and work on one bit at a time.

16th November Today has been a great day! First, we went to room ten to paint our artistic stars for the social, later on this year.
We then went to room 11 with Miss Isaac, to solve some very difficult math's puzzles. Yes, and it's that time of the year again. TESTS!! Today we did the commonly misspelt words. Boring!
Oh well, it has to be done! But I don't understand why room 12 has to because of course, we're all going to get 100%! Just kidding!!
This afternoon we have volleyball with Miss. Isaac. Yayyyyy!!!

14th November We have started filming our movie 'Atishoo Atishoo We All Fall Down', written and directed by Stacey Law. The story is about the birdflu (Kirsty Wakelin) coming to New Zealand and reaching Awakeri. Slowly it starts killing everybody until eventually there is only 1 class left in the school. Room12!!!

3rd November As you may have noticed, we have added a new section to the website page. It's called 'Unimportant Things'. If you'd like to check it out, scroll down to the bottom of the page. It's just below the 'Teacher's Message'. If you click onto the link to see the two website monitors for this page, you'll find it.

2nd November Today we had athletics. It was the field events, and Friday is the sprints. The day started off with the open 1500m race. In the boys division, as you probably read in the news page, if you ever read it, which you should because I write it, you would have seen that Room 12 was lucky enough to have 2 place getters. Vincent Sheather won, but didn't manage to break the record, and close behind him was another room 12 student. Unfortunately, his name cannot be mentioned on the website.

1st November Stacey Law's story just beat Danielle's story and we will try to turn it into a movie. The Bird Flu Catastrophe production team had their first session: Stacey, Daniel, Haylie, Chris J and Shelly went through the story and worked out scenes, characters, costumes and started writing the script for it. The creative ideas are flowing! Phew there is a lot to do!

28th October What a day!! Today we are voting for which story we would like to make a movie of. It's been difficult, so many stories are awesome but unfortunately there can only be one! Stay tuned in for the results!
We have just had some more of our story, Tom Sawyer. Great!
At 2:20, we go with Mrs. Isaac for another session of volley ball. Fun.
Right now though, before volley ball, we may have some singing.
Athletics' today was great and went really well. Everybody chose where they would like to go and many people improved so much!

26th October Today we had another athletics practice. Here are some photos:

20th October Yesterday we had an athletics practice doing discus and high jump. We also did volleyball skills with Ms. Isaac, the first of many. We ran some sprints today. Here are some photos:

19th October Yesterday was manual day. The day went very well. Most people in the hard materials class finished putting the 3 areas of their box together. The cooking class made their pikelets and their caramel slice. They tasted delicious! ! !
Today we have our first athletics practice. We will be out for 1 hour, weather permitting that is! This afternoon we have volleyball. Miss. Isaac and Mr. Hawkes have agreed to swap classes, with Mr. Hawkes taking room 11 for music and Miss. Isaac taking us for volleyball.
Today we are also starting to write stories for our movies.

13th October Tomorrow is Ag Day, so today we are making everything for the indoor show. There are 6 things things to make and you have to make at least 3. There are Flax Flowers, Miniature Scene, Flowers in a novelty container, Novelty Animal, Aqua Jar and Flower Jewellery. Mr. Hawkes have issued a few jobs to those who aren't taking animals, so they won't be in class all day.
This afternoon, we also are reading more of Tom Sawyer and carrying on with our war study which needs to be handed in on Monday.
We are also carrying on with our sketching. Yesterday we sketched a picture of either a boy or girl. We had 2 models sitting on chairs and the rest of the class sketched them.
The sketches turned out great and look fantastic.

12th October Well, here we are again, another day at school. Today, we have our 3rd inoculation for the meningicocal disease. After playlunch, we have our first day of Athletics. Yesterday was manual time again, with half the class going to hard materials, and the other half going to cooking.
For their first day of cooking, they will be making pikelets and caramel slice.
We have also been working on sketching different parts of the body.
A couple of days ago, we sketched a hand.

10th October The holidays are over, and here we are again, working our bottoms off! Yes, it's the end of the holidays, and the start of term 4. Now there are only 11 weeks to go and room 12 are counting down the days. We are going to the computer suite to finish off our war studies, and (for the first time for AGES) we are going to the library.

23rd SeptemberScroll down for your teacher's message. Have a happy holiday everyone. Don't get any "bandaids on your knees from falling on the concrete"!

22nd September Today is the last school day of the term. It's amazing how fast the year has gone. Well, tonight we also have the big, big night performance for our school production. Everybody has been working hard for this performance and the work has really paid off.

15th September We are having yet another opperetta rehearsal today, props only. Yesterday we had a dress rehearsal, and a rehearsal with only props. We are starting mock elections, with the real elections on now. There are 7 different parties, all with a different candidate. The parties are now deciding on policies to get people to vote for them. Good luck guys!!!

9th September With Mr. Sheather, we are designing, testing and modifying our plastic bottle rockets. We had to bring something we could use as fins, noses, etc. Daniel Glassbrook made a parachute for his rocket, and said, 'In theory, this should work.' We hope, Daniel. Also, if you didn't bring anything, you would probably have to do your Cereal Box designs. We are designing a box to hold our 'cereal' in. We have to give it a name, a brand and something to attract people to buy it.

8th September Today we are doing a full run-through of the operetta. Hopefully everyone has their costumes here for the dress rehearsal on Wednesday. Also the high schools are taking enrolments for the year 8s. Yay!!!

5th September Today we have a new teacher, Mr. Pickering. Mr. Hawkes is out with the Kapa-haka group, practising their dances. Tomorrow we have manual, so everyone will be busy!!!

29th August We are starting to play the drums!!! Hopefully we will all get a turn.

26th August 2005 Today we had Mr. Sheather, and we made plastic bottle rockets. Three people brought pumps, and some people had goes pumping their bottles and watching them fly. Also, today we had another Operetta practice, this time singing. Lalalalaaaa!!!!

25th August 2005 This afternoon, we have our second practice for the production. So far, we have gone through scenes 1-3 and presented them to the rest of the school.
With the production so close, we are practising every day now.

9th August 2005 The bus forgot to pick us up again, to go to Manual. Duh! That's twice in three weeks. Waaaah!

5th August 2005 Today we have Mr.Sheather. We have math's this morning and we're also learning about the history of rockets.
After play, we are experimenting on a ROCKET LAUNCH!!
We will have some photos about that as well. We are also having singing practice after play lunch.
A big congratulations to all those people who are trying out for the operetta.
This year, at least 130 children want to be a part of it, whether they perform or sing or act!! We also have a math's challenge below!!

3rd August 2005 Congratulations to all the senior students who entered and completed the science fair for 2005!! An even bigger congratulations to those who got placings and who are going to the EBOP science fair in a couple of weeks.

This afternoon we are carrying on with our geography study.

Students' Work
We are making movies, and we have been writing stories for them. Each person had to write a story that would make a 10 minute movie, then we had elimination's until all the stories were out except two. Those two movies are now in the finals that are taking place today. The two stories are:

Danielle Smith - How Danielle became She-man
Stacey Law - The Bird-flu Catastrophe

Teacher's Message

Well the end is nigh. We have just finished shooting our movie and it's looking great! Wait till the premiere at the school movie night coming soon. Radio broadcasts are going well. They have been lots of fun to listen to. At long last the pick-a-paths are finished. We are enjoying reading everyone's hard work. The Yr 7 & 8 intensive went really well. Mrs Sheather's art intensive people made some great silk paintings and mosiacs.

This is our wonderful teacher, Mr. Hawkes

Unimportant things (sort of a copy of Ngahuia last year!!!)

It's the start of a new month, so Mr. Hawkes's Elvis Presley Calendar has been flipped over to a new picture. Elvis is standing in his speedos on a rock in the middle of the ocean.Uuugh.
For current events this morning, someone spoke about fireworks, and how they might be banned in New Zealand because of all the fires. That is soooo sad!!! We're listening to Tom Sawyer just as I'm writing this. Well I do want to listen to the story, so I'll be off now.
Stacey and Daniel are trying to decide who is going to be the naughty child for the movie, because he is away.I can't be the naughty child, because I'm the birdflu!!!

Room 12 had some other cool pages in the past too, look at 2004, 2003 or 2002.
