Each class member will select a person that has made a difference in the world. Our class are looking forward to filming our class movie. We are also making maths games using cards or board games.

14 NOVEMBER Yesterday, our exciting first day's filming of the movie based on Kelly Stanton's story was meant to happen. Unfortunately Mr Hawkes had to spend them day sorting out some behaviour problems, so we have cancelled the filming.
We have been writing radio broadcasts, and on Monday two people will present theirs. The two brave people are Amy and Chaye. Today Neil and Nathan were going to recite their favourite poems at assembly, but we ran out of time. Maybe next week!

3 NOVEMBER Today our class, room 12, are the first class to have the Maturation talk. The maturation talk is an every year health unit taken by the public heath nurse. Room 12 are getting cracking with their short film. The film will last no more than 10 minutes and is an exciting experience for our class. We, and the rest of senior school, are having our fun rasising day this Wednesday. Some stalls on the day will include the following:
Mr & Mrs Awakeri, Fight for life (Wresling), Haunted house, Dress up Modles, Fear factor, Slip 'n' slide, Target shooting, gumboot obstacle course, Apple bobbing, water battle arena, mural painting. Senior school promise the day to be enjoyable and a lot of fun!!!

31 OCTOBER Today our class went on a trip to Norske Skog Tasman paper mill at Kawerau. We went on a tour of most of the factory. We went to the paper part of the factory, but unfortunately we could not go to the pulp part. We went and looked at the lakes at the far back of Tasman. There was a bit of drama trying to find a place for the bus to park, but we won't go into detail about that. Over all it was a great tour.

28 OCTOBER Today is wet, cold and horrible. Our class today, with Miss Pinny, have been yet again working on their inventors projects. Our projects are looking GREAT!!! We are also starting a new art project. We are making small comic strips. So thats our day. Not very big, but oh well.....

20 OCTOBER Today is Monday for all those who think it's Tuesday! Our class today is yet again taught by the excellent Miss Pinny. With Miss Pinny in the past week we have been making Microsoft power point presentations on an inventor of our choice. We have been collecting information about our inventor and transferring that information into sentences on our slide shows. We will be presenting the end results to the class and also be giving a speech on the inventor. So far we have put in a great effort!!!

~TASMAN TRIP~

RECENTLY ROOM 12 WENT FOR A TRIP TO TASMAN. WE LEARNED A WHOLE HEAP OF NEW STUFF . HERE ARE SOME HIGH LIGHTS AND TOPIC WORK FROM OUR TRIP.
WE LEARNED THAT:

      • Norske Skog, Tasman use water from the Tarawera river. After the water has been used, it can not be put straight back into the river. So, Norke Skog, Tasman set up a water cleaning system. The water is pumped into four lakes at the back of the factories. The water is pumped from lake 1 to 2 to 3 to 4. After the water has been tested by modern technology and found clean, it is put back into the Tarawera river where it is there left to flow out to the ocean.
      • With modern technology, computers can tell the size, shape, height, mass, etc of any object. At Norse Skog, Tasman, there have been a lot of redundancies in the past few years. Why? There is a simple answer to this question, technology. With the outbreak of new and advanced computers, Norke Skog, Tasman have now not needed to have so many workersl. From our class's own observations in the paper machine part of our tour, we only happened to see 20 people working. But, what we did see a lot of were: buttons, keyboards and computers. The machines in the factory were all computer set.
      • On the way to Norske Skog, Tasman, we drove trough a little Place called Te Teko. On our tour, our tour guide told us about the trees grown. He said that back when they first started planting pine trees, that the estimated time the trees would take to grow to full height would be about 50 years. He told us about the tree planting these days. He said that in Te Teko scientists take the pine cone of a fast growing, healthy tree and clone it. The cloning therefore makes the trees be able to grow at a faster rate, namely 25-30 years to reach full growth. The cloning will improve the rates of the companies and they will be able to manufacture much more supplies at a faster rate.
