Awakeri School Room 12 (2002) Who are we? We have 27 form 1 and 2 (Year 7 & 8 ) students in our class with one teacher, Barrie Hawkes. We are a senior class. Every second week we have Mrs Clegg to give Mr Hawkes a rest and to do some other work, as he is deputy principal. Class news 17 December 2002 Tonight is fancy dress and we have been practising hard core to get all of the dances right. First up is the grand parade, then the juniors dance, the seniors gay gordon (including parents!!), middle school dances and the the seniors folk dancing. !0 December 2002 We have started swimming in the school pool. Some of the days at Awakeri School are still cold so it should be refreshingly chilly! Also we did our second debate. The moot was Shortland Street is rubbish TV ! The sides were very even but the people who said it was rubbish won :'( 6 December 2002 We are having fun practicing our dances for the Fancy Dress night! Today we had an all in debate, the moot was Motorbikes are better than horses. The result was a draw. Troy and Amy got Caught Being Good, Troy for his great work on this website, and Amy for her leadership during dance. 26 November 2002 Lately we have been doing some mock radio broadcasts and some of us are going 2 write them ! 8 October We're back! The sun is shining, It's Ag Day on Friday, yay! 20 September Today we have to do our gymnastics display with 5 items in it. 13 September This morning before news we talked about the bad things that have happened so far on Friday the 13th. There was a whole lot of strange happenings. Mr Hawkes told us about his flat tyre, rusty jack and being late for a meeting. 12 September Yesterday Jennie and Michelle ran a hockey juggling contest at lunchtime. Lots of people entered. Results will be announced at tomorrow's assembly. Jennie says "It was really cool 'cause all the people that entered had a go and it didn't matter if they didn't get much." 5 September We are very proud of our scientists. Rink won the intermediate section of the Bay of Plenty Science Fair on Tuesday (after getting highly commended at our school fair, then a Gold at the Eastern Bay Fair!) Katie, Liz and Christine also got golds at the EBOP fair, and Alice got a silver. Rink altogether won $530 for her efforts! 23 August Today was P J's last day at our school but unfortunately she was sick so we were all very sad to see her go. 22 August Today we have the principal of Edgecumbe college coming to try and convince us that we should go to Edgecumbe. Only 2 weeks until the operetta. We had a fashion parade using our operetta costumes this morning. Troy did leaps and twirls down the catwalk! Karlene's very stylish dragon ensemble wowed the audience! Well done to Mrs Merry and Mrs Sheather for the dragon costume. We have completed all of the science fairs and we had lots of place getters in our class who will be going on to the E.B.O.P science fair next Friday. We will be doing a short study on New Zealand history. 26 July On Monday we had some fun elections for President of Awakeri School. We all made speeches and we also had a secret vote. The new Presidents of Awakeri School are Troy Jansen and Jordan Macdonald, and their party, Kool Skool. Congratulations! 16 July It's our second day into the new term and so far its gone well. In week three on Monday we are going to stay at Wairaka marae. We are going to do activities in the day and sleep there at night. We're going to welcome Room Eleven the next day and then we will go back to school. 28 June The last day of the term. The pick-a-path stories we have been writing and publishing were due in today. They look great! We had a geography test on the countries in the World Cup. Most people improved heaps. Two week's of holidays. Yeah! WE ALSO SAY GOODBYE TO DANNIELLA PALMER. WE WILL MISS YOU! Teacher's Message Well done Room 12 on an excellent year. You have been a creative, fun, intelligent bunch of students, and I'm sure I'll hear about your successes in the future. Year 8s, make the most of your opportunities at high school - don't stand back, get stuck in! Year 7s make the most of your last year at this great school! A hyperactive young boy with multicolored braces who goes by the name of Troy Jansen has escaped from the local mental hospital. He was last seen opening the cages of animals at the Auckland Zoo and yelling "Be Free!" Troy Jansen is still on the loose, so look out. He is definitely not quite sane.
