any way, but I guess we still have a half day to go which is optional
so yes it is only officially two days to go!! Yay well in a way its
yay but then again noooo its going to be sad to leave Awakeri School.
*She sniffs*.
Anyway, tomorrow room 12 has invited us to the world premiere of their
movie that they have made.

The Phone"!!!
13th December 2006
It's our final full week here at Awakeri school and its going to be
very sad to go.
We have had another normal week doing current events and maths and everything
like that. We've also been having folk dancing every day and at 11:45
we go out and either play padder tennis or softball. They're both heaps
of fun! But it gets really hot so we need hats.
Coming up we have fancy dress it will be a great and fun night of folk
dancing and jump jam.
I have already got
my costume (I'm going as a poker player) and I know that it will be
a very colourful night.
Also next week on Tuesday we have social for the year 7's and 8's that
will also be a very loud and energetic but it will be a blast!
Then on the final day, we have a half day and it's a water fight! Students
against the teachers.
4th December 2006
Last week was a very busy week. On Thrsday the year 7's and 8's had
intensives, The year 8's went to Tauranga and went to an indoor games
centre. There they played dodgeball which was my favourite. Then we
all played netball and soccer which made us very tired! But the fun
wasn't over yet! We hopped on the bus and went tenpin bowling. Once
we got there, we got onto groups of 5 and then started to bowl. It was
really funny because we didn't put the gutter sides up and heaps people
got gutter balls including myself!
Meanwhile the year 7's played mass soccer and had a technology challenge.
After that they read to and played games with the little kids. The junior
school teachers talked to them about taking care of the little kids.
Then they made chants, posters and flags for their house.
The next day we all came to school all happy knowing that we had another
really fun day ahead of us.
Some of the year 8's went with Mr. Hawkes to the skate park and pa site,
while other year 8's went golfing,
and the year 7's also had a fantastic day as they were at the Barr's
farm doing some neat activities. They were put into groups of 5 or 6
and practiced their team work skills. Then they walked to the hot pools
next door. There they had lunch,(sausages) had a swim and played as
well as the year 8's. After that we all returned to school.
24 November 2006
This term we have been very busy with tests and finishing off work.
Last week Room 11 went to Wairaka Marae. We left on Wednesday morning
and did a manuhiri powhiri. We were welcomed on by Room 12. Then we
got straight into it. We did activities like art, a historical walk
and flax weaving. We then went on a walk to the water fall and the archeological
dig in town. Next we had dinner then story telling. We all said our
Pepeha's and then we were off to bed. The next morning we welcomed on
Room 10, 13 and 9. We became teachers and taught the younger kids how
to weave, string games and art. And just like that, we were on the bus,
on our way back to school.
Then it was back to school work the next day, we had a marae evaluation
and also we have been learning Te Taima in Te Reo. Today we had a test
about it and nearly everybody improved.
Also to add on to all the work we have started a reading assignment,
we have to read 2 journals and then answer questions about two storys
and two articals. Also we have to learn a poem off by heart and then
we have to hand it all in next week.
Room 11 has had two relieve teachers this week because Miss Shaw has
been writing on our report (I hope I get a good one.)
Next week the year 7 and 8s have intensive. The year 8s on the first
day go over to Tauranga and we're going tenpin bowling and do some indoor
activities. I can't wait!
The year 7s are reading to little children and playing games with them.
On the second day the year 8s have an option to either go golfing, or
they can go go the skate park and then to a pa site. The year 7s go
to a farm and do some very cool and fun activites.
Then the year 7s and the year 8s all meet up at the Awakeri hot pools
and have a swim.
25 October 2006
Today for athletics we practised our sprints. Well, a 200m race which
we should be sprinting anyway. We also practised relays and how to pass
the baton. At the end when we were all familiar with the passing, we
had a proper race. There was only 4 people in the class challenge race
so we had to pick the fastest.
The team from our class was Zoe, Steffi, Liam and Matthew. In the race,
there was Room 10 and the fabulous Room 11 and Room 12.
We have Marae Stay(over night) coming up in week 6. We are all looking
foward to it. Every day at 12:15 pm,
we go into room 10 and practice our waiata.(songs)
For art, we have been studying Rei Hamon, an artist, who is known for
pointilism art. Pointilism is an art form of when a picture is drawn
or painted as dots.
We have our maturation talk tomorrow and the lesson is taken by Johanna
Wilson ( not much more to say about that.)
As part of our topic studies, we have to do a lot of research on the
history of New Zealand and artist Rei Hamon.
17 October 2006
On Friday, we had Ag Day. Everybody had been working hard on their crafts,
baking and animals. Group Day is on Wednesday and is for the students
who won a ribbon with their calf, kid or lamb on Ag Day.
We've been doing more athletics every day
apart from Monday which we do sprinting.
Our topic study is Maori Myths and Legends. Papa and Rangi was the first
one we read. And after that we drew the characters.
We have also been learning more Te Reo because we are staying at the
Wairaka Marae later on this term. We have also been learning songs and
basic Te Reo. (You can read more about it in the teacher's message.)
We have started a new unit in Maths. It's algebra.
10 October 2006
Before the holidays we had production at the Little Theatre, it was
a wonderful show and then it was the holidays!! I had a wonderful 2
weeks off school and I'm sure everybody else did.
Now were back at school, it's our last term and we have so much coming
up so we really need to knuckle down and concentrate on our school work.
Today we started off with current events and then we did some English
on our goal setting that took about 30 mins. After play we started to
practice for school athletics (well until it rained we did anyway) but
the weather fined up so we went back our to practice high jump, long
jump, shout put, discus, and standing jump. Standing jump is new to
Awakeri. What you have to do is stand on a mat and then without taking
a run up or anything. You have to just stand on the end of a mat and
see how far you can jump.
After that we came back inside and started a new unit for maths.
12 September 2006
Over the last few weeks we have been doing more production practice,
and now we have finally have a full run through of the whole thing.
Tomorrow we have our fist dress rehearsal, then next week we have the
real thing. Tickets are on sale at Awakeri school office in the morning.
Yesterday we had manual, and we have nearly finished out puppets. Some
of us are up to making our clothes. We had a power cut, so we couldn't
use the machines in the afternoon.
23 August 2006
Well over the last few days we have been doing jump jam. We have had
to learn some new ones for the production. Speaking of production we
have been going over to the hall and doing a read through and Mr. Fitz
says that every one should now their part by now, So I have been working
hard to learn all my lines and so has every body else. And also every
Wednesday we have music with Mr. Hawkes and that's really fun. Our class
(room 11) swaps with his class (room 12) and we go in there and we sing
all these really cool songs. Most of them are old but there are words
so if we don't know the song we can just read the words. Also he has
a drum set in his class so he gives us a beat and people who want to
see if they can do it will go up to the front of the class and have
a try. Most people can, but as for me *cough cough* that's a different
story.
This morning we were doing biography. First the teacher told us what
a biography story was. It's a story where someone is telling a story
about another person) and a auto biography story is where someone is
telling a story about themselves. So after that we had to write a biography
story on your chosen sports person. We have only done a paragraph but
it's a start.
15 August2006
Well today we have had our first proper day with Miss Shaw (our new
teacher). Well we started off the day with fitness and then we had a
little discussion about current events and then we all got given jobs
to do then we didn't have any time left to do smart words so we just
went straight to the library then it was play lunch,
after that we had math's we were doing 3D drawings and shapes, then
we had hockey/soccer practice
then lunch yay!! After that we read for about 10 mins and then we went
to the computer suite and we were searching our choose person ( we have
started a new unit, we have to choose a famous person and then we have
to talk about them) so we headed off to the computer suite and searched
their name and then we copied and pasted only the information that matted
and then we printed it off and then the day was over in a flash!!
8th August 2006
Well today we have been working in our thinking skills book.
We were giving a piece of paper with a picture on it. We had to do the
PMI which stands for P= plus M=minus I= interesting. We had to look
at the picture and then write what's good about it and what's bad about
it and what's interesting and then after that we had library, followed
by P.E and then math's and after lunch we have computer suite where
we will be doing excel and then at the end of the day we have debating
.

August 2006
This morning we went to see the science fair projects.
A lot of people in our class got commendeds, Highly Commendeds and third
places. The students who get Highly Commended and up go to the E.B.O.P.
Science Fair. Liam Richards and ChristineTipper (who was partnered with
Kelli Paterson, Rm 10) received third equal in the Science area. Before
lunch we are going to prize giving.
For Te Reo Maori, we are making books about Nga Tae. (colours) We are
using ideas from a Maori colours book about a dog who gets in all types
of trouble.
Now, because Miss Isaac is leaving, we are throwing a party! A farewell
party. We are having pin the tail on the donkey, pinata and kareoke.
We, the kids of the classroom, wanted to see Miss Isaac in a skirt before
she goes. She said she would only wear one if everyone else wears one.
So some of the boys are going to dress up in skirts!
With Mr. Sheather, we are making ads. The class have come up with some
cool and strange ideas.
Currently, the school is entering a competition. We have to collect
as many apple yummy stickers as we can. We are First equal with room
13. The winners get lots of sports equipment for their school!
25 July
2006
Well, yesterday we found out that we are receiving a new teacher for
the rest of the year, in three weeks! Miss Isaac will be leaving to
go down south to Greymouth to be a deputy principal. We get a new teacher,
Mrs Shaw for the rest of the term. Then for term 4 we are getting a
new, mystery teacher. We know that all of room 11 will miss Miss Isaac.
We will miss how she always does fun, unusual and interesting things.
Now lets talk worms. Brent Gurran's family owns a worm farm. Brent 'willingly'
brought along a box of worms for us to see. He also talked about what
worms are for, and told us all about worms!!!
20 July 2006
Well, we're back at school for term 3! Everyone had a great rest.
Lately, for English we have been learning to write
ballads which are poems that have mixed up sentences.
e.g "I went to school". Then it becomes "to school I
went".
For maths we are learning about angles. You know, acute angles and such.
P.E. has been softball. We have been learning to catch, throw and bat.
Today and tomorrow, we are learning about composting. Some think it's
gross, some think it's cool, but it is supposed to be really interesting.
We also have been swapping teachers for half an hour most days. Mr Hawkes
gets Room 11 for music and Miss Isaac gets Room 12 for volleyball. Everyone
thinks it's cool.
Tomorrow's Friday, so we will be having a fun
day. !!Yay!!
28 June
2006
Well yesterday some of our students went to go
to Manawahe to compete in inter school cross country. every one who
went did extremely well, we are all proud of them. While the they were
there the rest of the class and other senior school was in room 11 or
in other classes but the people who was in room 11 ( like my self) were
all doing art for the most of the day but we did also go out for a game
of soft ball and that was cool. The art that we were doing was we had
to draw a person and the we had to make something go wrong with them
it was about reorganizing the human body and they look awesome so I
decided to take a few photos to show you how good they look. We also
did some of animals mixed with other animals our whole class room looks
so cool. On no to night we have parent teacher inter view's, but look
on the bright side to day and tomorrow we only have half days so that
is good and then on Friday it is out last day of this term !!yay!! and
according to the teacher we will be having a fun day ( I hope so) and
then we have two weeks of on holiday.
23 June 2006
Today our teacher organized for us to do something really cool today.
We went to the staff room and we listened to a audioconference about
the blue duck. We had people in our class speaking. Zoe, Sam and Shaun.
What they did was they asked questions about the blue duck. Then Sonya
the host answered the questions while she was on a field trip looking
for the blue duck. There were also other schools on the phone so we
could listen to them as well. It was really cool as we were writing
down notes from the conference.
Last night the senior syndicate held their speech competition finals.
There were 7 poeple, they all did well just getting there, but the three
people who did exceptionally well were Steffi Rogers (ME!!!) who came
third, Marie-Loiuse Barkema who came second and the winner, who did
an awesome speech and who won the shield and $40 gift voucher for Whitcoulls
was RHONA WHITTAKER.
19 June
2006
Well, the semi-finals have been and gone, Room
11 has two people through to the finals which are this Thursday at night
and the two people who are through are (drum roll please) Guy Kamporst
and Steffi Rogers!!! Only 7 people out of the 15 finalists got through
to the finals and congratulations to everyone who even made it to the
semi finals. We we have started a new unit now we have started to study
the battle of Hastings we started to day so we don't know much yet,
but Miss Isaac said that we will be doing a lot of acting so I am really
glad because I do drama and I love acting. Speaking of acting the school
production is coming up and we have been given a sheet to learn all
the words and then at the end of the week we are going to audition of
the parts.
Back to class we have also been doing a lot
more of spirolateral patterns and now we are making them in to 3D with
blocks its really fun!! Now lets talk science we have been testing things
like liquids lots of people brought in deferent liquids and we have
been testing them to see if they are acids or alkalis and did you now
that lime drink is an acid!! year I no it shocked me to. Any way we
had a whole day on testing all the deferent liquids and it was really
fun oh year every Monday we have still been going to Mr. Sheather every
Monday after noon to make a medieval weapon its fun fun fun!!!any way
ill up date you when I next can.
8 June 2006ts
We have a new student in our class. His name is Cody. He is really cool
and a hard worker. The other day, we had school cross country. Everybody
did extremely well and put in their best effort. It took up the whole
to afternoon, but it was really fun. All of the seniors had to run through
!!MUD!! When I was running through the mud, it got all up my legs!!!
It was yuck, but it was worth it. Over the last few days we have been
working on a new project for the class, we have been set little tasks
for the class room. We had to put up cardboard and paint them. We then
put them up around the class to make it look pretty. Also so that we
don't have to look at the boring brown carpet on the walls. It was really
fun as we were working in groups of 2, 3 or 4 people. Once we had finished
we went and told Miss Isaac and she would put them up around the class.
Now that it is finished, it looks amazing. Also, since we are studying
medieval realm, some people have made a castle at the back of the class.
It's 3D so we can walk into it. Currently, we have been doing speeches.
Well, all of the senior school had to make up a speech on a topic and
then say it to the class. Once everybody has done their speech, the
teacher picks 5 or so people to be in the semi-finals. You say your
speech to the whole syndicate. The people from my class who are in are
me (Steffi), Kirsty, Matthew R, Guy and Zara. The semi-finals are this
week on Thursday so that will be fun fun fun !!! I can't wait.
22 May 2006
Well today we have had a different teacher because our original teacher
has been observing around the school.
Anyway we just got back from camp and I'm talking to Madison about what
happened at camp.
Well on the first day we left school and drove to Tui Ridge camp in
Rotorua. We arrived at the destination at 11:00am and then we got a
tour around the camp. We were then told all the rules about the camp
and what and what not we were allowed to do. Later
on we had free time while the teachers told the parents all the rules
then we had lunch. Then we had the amazing race which was really fun
and tiring. After that it was getting a bit dark so we had tea and then
we had our diary. We played spotlight. All the children had to hide
and the parents and teachers had to find us. We played it twice. The
first time we played there was a group of us hiding in the bush. We
never got found so we had to get called back by the bell. The second
time our luck wasn't so good we got found, then it was late so we all
headed back to the dorms and went to sleep.
The next day we all woke up and we had our first events. We had high
ropes then lunch followed by archery. At high ropes it was really fun,
there were 4 things that we could do. I did them all. Once we had done
all of them we were allowed to try the leap of faith. It is a little
pole and you have to climb up it and then stand on it and there is a
trapeze in front
of you. You have to try and jump out and grab it. It was really fun
and hard to get it, but lots of people got it which was good.
After our 2 hours were up, it was time for lunch.
Once we had all finished we went to our next activity which was archery.
It was really hard for some to get the targets, but some of the boys
were really good and kept getting the bulls eye. After that activity
was over we had games. We went up to the school room and
we played indoor hockey. It was really really fun and also really really
tiring because you have to run up and down the room and plus I kept
getting whacked in my shins by the hockey sticks!! When our two hours
were up we had a bit of free time. Look at the
COOL photos we took at camp!
15 May 2006
On Friday our other web site monitor left to go to another school it
was so sad but now we have a new monitor and her name is Zara Fowell
and she is a very good worker and all (so a top student) so I am so
glad to have her with me. We have been doing our very last cards of
SRA its sad for some people but I'm glad that there gone. Also we have
had Mrs. Merry for art. We had to design a stamp to help save Christmas.
We had to draw a picture that represents what Christmas means to us.
Then once we finished we voted for which 6 stamps we thought were the
best. The 6 best stamps are being sent away, and if they win, the person
who made the stamp gets $500 for themselves and $1500 for the school.
Also, their stamp design gets turned into a real postage stamp for millions
to see. We have also been learning the set in volleyball. So far in
volleyball we have learnt the dig, the serve, and the set. It is really
fun. We will be playing volleyball at camp.WE GO ON CAMP TOMORROW!!!YAY!!!
: )
4 May 2006
In the last week room 11 has been doing very
fun and exciting things. Yesterday we played volley ball maths and I
know that it sounds weird but it was really fun and all of room 11 enjoyed
it. You were put into groups of 3 and you had to get 1 person to throw
you the ball. Then you had to hit it and the person who threw the ball
to you (which is called the lollypop man) had to count how many throws
they had thrown, because they were only allowed to throw you 10 balls.
The other person had to count how many good throws they did. You made
it into a tally chart, which was cool. We have also been doing art.
Some afternoons room 11 goes to room10 and we do art and room 10 comes
to room11 to play volley ball. In room 10 we have been making a picture
about Christmas and what Christmas means to you. It's really fun and
to day we are going for the whole afternoon so that will be fun.
WE ARE GOING TO CAMP NEXT WEEK!!! So room 10 has been coming to room
11 and we have been writing stuff in our camp books about what we are
going to be doing there. We are doing all these fun activites such as
HIGH ROPES!! I know that is fun because I did it last year, it was really
exciting and for some a challenge. We are also doing ABSEILING!!!!
There is a big wall and a small wall and the instructors say that you
have to go down the big wall just to us a challenge which is really
cool. Also we do THE FLYING FOX. It's really long and you have to walk
up 70 or 80 steps just to get to the platform but at least we get a
little fitter and then weeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!! all the way to the bottom
again. We do MOUNTAIN BIKING. There are 4 tracks that you can go on.
It goes from easy to hard and you have to have a parent in view at all
times which is fine with me because I don't want to get lost. And we
also do ARCHERY its really fun. Just a little tip don't shoot the arrow
when some one is in front of you. It will hurt.Last but not least GAMES.
For this event you go in to the dining room and then every one moves
all the tables. We play indoor hockey and every one enjoys it and at
the end of the day every one is tired because we spend 2 hours on each
event .
31 March 2006
Yesterday room 10, 11 and 12 went to Otarawairere for our rocky shore
study. We saw a BIG rock crab. It was SCARY! We also saw lots of hermit
crabs, limpets, 2 octopuses,
starfish, cockabullies, cat eyes, kina, a spider crab, etc. Click
here to see pictures of the trip.
On Mondays room 11 and 12 go to Manual and we have been making pencil
cases, food and clocks. It is very fun!C
28 March 2006
Today we have been doing the usual SRA cards. Last week we started a
new project on the commonwealth games. We have chosen a partner to work
with and we have been choosing a person who went to the commonwealth
games and who did really well. Also we have to make a little booklet
on them. We have all finished the front cover and most of us are on
to the next page so we will inform you about that when we have done
more work on it. We have also been going out for lots of games and playing
non stop cricket.
We have been doing lots of art lately we had to make up a predator and
here are some of them.

On Friday every one that
is 8 and uolder have to go to swimming sports, which is held in Edgecumbe.
There are lots of events that you can go in. Everybody has to go in
at least 3 events. Everybody did very well and inter-school swimming
sports is on the 16 of March and only people who got good placing and
who got chosen to go can, SO GOOD LUCK to those people who were Chosen
to go. Other things that we have been doing are Maori with Mrs Bateson
and Siri we have been doing or Nga Mihi and our Taku Pepeha!
We have also been doing lots of PAT tests I wonder how everyone's done!
Our reliever teacher the cool Mrs. Bateson taught us a new game that
is sort of like softball. Here's what you do. You have a team of batters
and a team of fielders. In batting you have to run as far as you can
and if you're not on a base when the ball gets back to the pitcher you
lose all your runs. The team with the most runs win.

March 2006
Well today we went swimming and we had to go in
our clothes We had to make waves from the side of the pool and then
our teacher (Miss Isaac) would number you 1 to 6. Then she would call
out one of those numbers. If you were that number, you had to go into
the middle and then you had to tread water while there were lots of
waves going over your head. It was hard and everybody struggled to keep
their heads above the water.
March 23 2006
So far this week room 11 has had a different
teacher because our other teacher has been away with a very sore leg.
We all hope that she gets better soon so that she can come back to teach
us. We have been studying the common wealth games and looking at all
the medals that we have won so far the total is 16 so that's good for
New Zealand,we have also been looking at all the events that New Zealanders
have been taking part in, our relive teacher has been bringing cuttings
out of the news paper and putting them up on the back wall so that every
body can see there. for math's we have started a knew unit on place
value and we do that every day. We have also been doing SRA its where
you have to read a story and then answer all the questions that are
on the sheet and then when you are finished all the questions you go
and get the answer card and take it to the teacher and they mark it.
Every Wednesday afternoon we half the class and then the year s7's go
in to another class with Mr. Sheather and they have been learning about
the seven wonders of the natural world and the the year 8's stay in
the class and they do like art or other stuff like that, and then and
2:00 we all swap over the year 7's come to room 11 and the the year
8's go to Mr. Sheather class to study. Its really fun and the seven
natural wonders of the world are the Grand Canyon, the Great Barrier
Reef, Mount Everest, Sahara Desert, Angel Falls, Sarawak Chamber and
the Mauna Loa.

Today room 11 has been doing swimming but there
was something unusual about what we did at swimming today..... WE SWAM
IN OUR CLOTHES!!! We are learning about if you fell out of a boat or
something to swim properly, you have to take your clothes off and tread
water!!!
We also learnt a new game which we named ballzilla!!!

working on it very long, But for what is happening now lots of kids

Room 11 are still working hard in
class time to ensure all mondules are finished by the end of the term.
We are running a padder tennis ans softball tournament in the senior
syndicate as well as making preparations for the end of the year events.
