Awakeri School Room 10 in 2005 Who are we? Room 10 has 34 wonderful students made out of 17 great year 7's and 18 awesome year 8's. There are 8 Rata people, 8 Tawa, 13 Rimu and 5 Kowhai. There are also 15 girls and 19 boys and also one lovely teacher, Mrs. Merry. Class News 25 November 2005-Wahoo! It's nearly the end of the year and we need to do a lot of things in these last couple of weeks. We have yr7 and yr8 intensive coming up really soon. The yr7s are going to the Barrs' farm down the road and doing some team building activities, finishing off with a swim at the hot pools. The yr8s are going all the way to Mt Maunganui to the indoor sports centre and then to Taurangato do some ten pin bowling. The next day the the yr8s either go to the Te Te Teko golf course, a local pa site or an art exercise with our teacher/artist Mrs Sheather until lunch time, then they go to the hot pools with the yr7s. Some other things we've got planned are the end of year dance, our reuseable energy unit and our Christmas card photos which were making with Adobe. 9 November 2005-So much stuff has happened since our last update like most of us are up to painting our masks and athetics day. First the athletics day. Quite a few record were broken including the extremely difficult house relay and a few junior records were broken. Our activities were vortex throwing, shotput, discus, standing jump and long jump. Our masks are coming along swiftly, most of us are up to painting or finishing our facial details. Our new unit for now up to the end of the year is reuseable energy. We were put into 4 groups each focusing on a specific location and we have to build a massive paper mache' landscape focusing on how electricity can be made there. The locations are the Awakeri area, Germany, the Australian outback and the Maldives. 20 October 2005-On Friday Awakeri school hosted the annual ag day. Athletics time has arrived again thanks to summer. This year (like every year) we will be rotating through Mrs Merry with long jump, Mr Hawkes with discus and Ms Isaac with high jump. Room 10 is currently studying the Amazon rain forest and fossils with Mr Sheather. 16 September 2005-Yesterday it was 2 people's birthday, Jakob and myself ( Matthew). Today was the dead line for the inventors study and much to everybodies disbelief everybody got theirs handed in on time (except for Fenton who lost his). The operetta is next week so the practices have been getting longer and harder and theres just about no time for fun. 20 August 2005-We've started our masks now and they look really cool. We use paper mache' and news paper struts to build and model them. 5 August 2005-About a week has passed since the end of the holidays and we're all back into it. The science fair prize giving was on Wednesday and we have our new technology and science champions: Nicholas Schuler and Stefan Etter who came equal in technology and Matthew Reeves who came first in science. We have started making our new paper mache masks for art, they are going to be really cool. We have also just started our inventors study were we have to make a project about our inventor with cartoons to tell the reader about him. 7 July 2005-We've almost finished our Back From The Dead language unit which was really fun. We watched the 'Back from The Dead, The Story Of The Rose Noelle' and did lots of activities for it, plus it take a huge chunk out of normal school work. 30 June 2005-We've got two new class members now, Danielle Le Lievre. Last night we had the speech competition, 1st was Stacey Law, 2nd was Matthew Reeves and 3rd was Chris Stanton, kudos to them. A big flu bug has been going around lately probably due to the temperature. We've had so many people absent and just about everybody has a sniffy nose. Mrs Merry caught the bug too and was away a couple of days so we had Mrs Schroder as our teacher for a day. While she was here we made cardboard surfboards with mosaic designs on them. We've also made record covers for the Beatles and done a short lived study about them. 3 June 2005-Today another room 10 member is leaving, Te Rina Robinson, who is moving to Rotorua. We're doing our camp art now which are pictures of us doing the activities at camp. We are allowed to use at least 3 type of medium. I'm using pastel, dye and paint. The big cross country run was yesterday. Everybody ran except for the sick people who walked. The first 10 people get to go to the Manawahe interschool race. Matthew Reeves was the only one in room 10 to get a certificate, for 3rd place. 19 May 2005-Tomorrow, Leah Maxwell, a long time room tenian is leaving us to go to Whakatane Intermediate since she's moving and will be closer. 17 May 2005-We just got back from camp which was really cool, while we were there we did abseiling, mountain biking, archery, games, high ropes and flying fox. Everything was cool but most people really liked the flying fox and abseiling. We've started a new Te Reo Maori unit, Te Taima which is the telling of the time in Maori. Check out some cool camp photos. 5 May 2005(05/05/05)-Just finished the holidays so we're all disappointed because we can't do all the things we wanted to do on the last Sunday. We have started fitness and it's really fun. Once everyday around the field 2 or 3 times. We are going on camp really soon which will be awesome, but we have to do lots of boring, (yet necessary) pre-work. 14 April 2005-We have started doing jump jam and it's really cool . We have the songs Coconuts, Who Let the Dogs Out, the Witch Doctor, Candyman, and one of Five's songs, I can't remember. Oh yeah only 2 more days to go until the big holidays (the 2 week holidays). 11 April 2005-We just had the annual touch day event last week raising $1005.55 for the school. Rooms 10, 11 and 12 went to the mangroves for their science trip on Thursday and we spent the whole day there. Indiana came to school today with her homework book in shreds because she says her dog ate it and Mrs. Merry believed her! (Pic down page) 1 April 2076-Oh no James is trying to make a A-bomb! just kidding, it's April fools and we all need to buy hoopoe cushions again. Room 10 going on camp soon to Tui ridge which is cool as and also we're going on a science trip to some mangrove plants in a couple of days. 21 March 2005-Yesterday Awakeri hosted their 20th top school event. 27 schools competed. The Awakeri top school team came 4th. The winners for the primary top school teams were Thorton. The winners of the intermediate top school team was Whakatane Intermediate. 17 March 2005-All of room 10 has finished their visual language exercise and they're looking good. Its Top School on Sunday and we're all excited, all the posts, barrels, etc. are up now. 14 March 2005-A couple of days ago room 10 started some new art - finger painting! We were given a blue vase with a lovely array of flowers to paint and many people were surprised with results. (photos down page). 10 March 2005-Well were not doing much besides a 'visual language' exercise where we do posters selling a product. Mine (James Holani) is a hair cut business called "Got The Chop"Mathew Jones's is called "Mr. Sparkle" its a soap business. 2 March 2005-We're finishing off our myself booklets now and they look really cool . The top school team try outs are over now and the team has been selected so please welcome some of them: James Holani, Matthew Reeves, Mathew Bateson and Ben Hancox which are all I can remember. 23 February 2005-Our portraits are coming along nicely now. They're all up on the wall and all the parents really enjoyed them in the parent/teacher meetings. The infamous swimming sports are on Friday and we all look forward to a great time there. GO RIMU!x2 website monitors. 11 February 2005- Well we haven't been up to much except for the fund raiser which is awesome. Some of us have made sandwich boards (2 big advertising boards strung together and worn by someone) which look quite effective with all the colours. We're also making portraits of ourselves which are coming along nicely. Also Leah Maxwell had her 12th birthday. Congratulations to all the people who got high marks on their P.A.T.s. Well done! .Students' Work
